About the role:

The Head of Legal will be a critical member of Frontera Health's leadership team, owning and managing all legal, regulatory, and risk-related functions for the company. The Head of Legal will serve as a trusted advisor and business partner to the CEO, executive team, and board of directors, providing counsel on key business decisions, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate governance, healthcare regulations, privacy, data security, and risk management. This role requires an experienced legal leader with a deep understanding of the healthcare technology industry, preferably in behavioral health, and a proven ability to contribute to the strategic direction of a high-growth organization. 

Key Responsibilities:

The Head of Legal will be a key member of Frontera Health's leadership team, responsible for overseeing and managing all legal, regulatory, and risk-related matters for the company. This individual will provide strategic guidance and counsel on a wide range of legal and business issues, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate governance, healthcare regulations, risk management, compliance, privacy, data security, and employment law. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the healthcare technology industry, preferably in behavioral health, and a proven track record of handling complex legal and regulatory challenges in high-growth environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all legal, regulatory, and risk management activities for Frontera Health, including corporate governance, compliance, and litigation.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to the executive team, board of directors, and senior management on key business decisions, including M&A transactions, business development opportunities, and operational matters.
  • Oversee the company’s regulatory compliance, including healthcare-specific laws and regulations, such as HIPAA, Medicaid/Medicare, and state-specific healthcare regulations.
  • Manage the company’s risk management efforts, identifying potential legal and business risks and providing actionable solutions to mitigate those risks.
  • Advise on intellectual property strategy, contracts, partnerships, and vendor agreements.
  • Supervise the legal department, ensuring efficient operations and managing external legal counsel when necessary.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, and clinical teams, to ensure that legal and regulatory requirements are integrated into all aspects of the company’s operations.
  • Support the company’s growth strategy by providing legal insights and guidance for new markets, partnerships, and innovations.
  • Oversee privacy and data security policies and practices, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, such as HIPAA and GDPR.
  • Lead and manage the company's corporate governance, including advising the board of directors, preparing board resolutions, and ensuring compliance with corporate bylaws.
  • Develop and implement robust compliance programs, including employee training on legal and regulatory matters.
  • Oversee the management of all litigation and disputes, including identifying risks, working with external counsel, and managing dispute resolution processes.
  • Advise on employment law matters, including workplace policies, employee relations, and handling employment-related legal issues.
  • Engage in government affairs, working with regulatory bodies and policymakers to advocate for the company’s interests and stay ahead of industry regulations.
  • Manage the negotiation and drafting of complex contracts, including customer agreements, vendor contracts, and licensing deals.
  • Lead crisis management efforts, including legal strategy, communications, and mitigating reputational risks during crises.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
  • 10+ years of experience in a senior legal role, preferably in the healthcare technology or behavioral health sectors.
  • Proven experience in navigating M&A transactions and complex business negotiations in high-growth environments.
  • Deep expertise in healthcare law, including compliance with HIPAA, CMS, Medicaid/Medicare, and state-specific healthcare regulations.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to partner with executives and provide proactive, solution-oriented legal counsel on strategic decisions.
  • In-depth experience managing corporate governance, compliance programs, and risk management strategies.
  • Expertise in privacy and data security law, particularly in healthcare-related contexts.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal issues in clear, actionable terms.
  • Track record of successfully leading legal teams and external counsel in achieving business objectives.
  • Ability to manage a broad range of legal matters while aligning legal strategy with overall business goals.
  • Strong crisis management skills and the ability to navigate high-pressure situations with strategic foresight.
  • Experience with the application of AI in Healthcare is strongly preferred.

We have determined a salary range for this position that takes into account several factors including experience, knowledge, education, skills, and abilities. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline and the exact salary will be determined based on the individual’s qualifications and experience, with consideration given to the factors listed above. All full time employee benefits include a stake in shared success through stock options, health benefits, 401(k) plan, and responsible PTO.

Expected salary range in Denver

$200,000 - $250,000 USD
