Technical Sales Engineer
About the role:
The Technical Sales Engineer acts as a primary technical authority on sales calls and RFPs, informs scope, effort and delivery timelines for integrated solutions, performs live product demonstrations, and evaluates partner tech stacks and objectives for compatibility - while serving as the connective tissue between Sales, Marketing, Partner IT, and internal Product/Engineering teams to keep deals moving from discovery to go-live.
Key responsibilities:
Complex Solution Selling
- Serve as the primary technical expert throughout the sales cycle - joining AM discovery calls and partner meetings when platform integrations or product delivery are on the agenda.
- Informs the solution design for primary product offerings (FSA SmartSpender, Email-as-a-Service (EaaS), DirectPay, and related integrations) and is the primary liaison between Product and Sales.
- Support pre-sales demos and RFP responses with technical accuracy.
- Develop and maintain technical proficiency in supported product offerings sufficient to run live solution demonstrations and articulate technical differentiation to enterprise partners.
- Provide a point of view on technical and process recommendations to partners and prospects, positioning solutions in terms of revenue impact, cost reduction, and partner satisfaction.
- Delivers technical scope, estimated effort, and delivery timelines to support sales up-selling, onboarding, and implementation needs.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Acts as a key stakeholder alongside Product and Engineering across the deal lifecycle, providing sales and technical context that informs solution design decisions.
- Provide the connective tissue between AMs, Marketing/Creative, Partner IT teams, and internal Product/Engineering teams.
- Feed product feedback and integration friction points back to internal stakeholders, representing the partner's technical voice internally.
- Participate in prioritization and scoping of new features and services alongside Product and Engineering, ensuring partner and market feedback shapes the roadmap.
Technical Troubleshooting & Solution Design
- Maintain deep knowledge of partner tech stacks and proactively surface compatibility issues or upgrade impacts.
- Identify partner pain points and inform alternative technical or process solutions
- Works very closely with Product & Engineering teams to ensure new or modified integrations meet business requirements and that interface issues are documented and resolved before go-live.
Documentation & Enablement
- Oversee the production of technical scope documents and integration roadmaps that serve as the implementation handoff from sale to go-live.
- Partner with Product & Engineering to author supporting technical documentation - API specs, process flows, data flow diagrams – to ensure they are impactful for internal and partner-facing use.
- Maintain a partner-facing technical knowledge base; track versions, known issues, and resolution paths.
What you'll need:
- Minimum of 5+ years in a Sales Engineering, Solutions Consulting, or Technical Implementation role in a B2B SaaS or fintech environment
- Hands-on experience with API integrations, EDI/file-based data exchanges, and SSO/authentication protocols
- Familiarity with FSA/HSA/HRA platform ecosystems - WEX, Alegeus, or similar TPA technology stacks strongly preferred
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both non-technical partners and internal stakeholders
- Experience owning client onboarding or technical implementation projects end-to-end
- Proficiency with Salesforce for opportunity tracking, technical notes, and integration documentation
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology, or equivalent work experience
