Role Overview

The Junior Designer will support the Schumacher design studio both creatively and organizationally, gaining experience with aspects of textile and wallcovering design and production. This role is a unique opportunity to learn and grow as a designer and ideal for someone with a background and interest in textile design, a passion for interiors and design history, and a strong sense of color and pattern. The role requires a balance of creative drive paired with a curiosity for technical problem-solving, a positive and proactive mindset, and a “no task is too small” attitude.

You Will

  • Contribute to the development of designs across all categories: prints, wovens, wallcoverings, and trims
  • Create simple layouts, artwork, and simple separations for print production
  • Develop original artwork and hand draw/paint as needed
  • Develop colorways for printed and woven designs, under direction of director
  • Contribute to the research of creative concepts, and develop palettes and mood boards, under direction of director
  • Assist with administrative duties, production approvals, and regularly update information in development tracking system
  • Manage and prioritize projects independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicate with mills and vendors throughout development and join vendor meetings
  • Support cross-functional team communication as needed, assist with preparation and organization for internal meetings and presentations
  • Become familiar with the portfolio in relation to the Schumacher “Country” aesthetic and research the category in depth to understand the needs of interior designers

You Have/Are

  • BFA in Textile Design or related field
  • Enthusiasm for textiles, interior design, design and art history, and continuous learning
  • Experience with Photoshop (ideally textile specific); AVA software experience a plus
  • Strong conceptual, layout, and color sensibility
  • Strong hand drawing and hand painting ability
  • Familiarity with pattern repeats and layouts appropriate for textiles
  • Some understanding of and experience with general printing and weaving techniques and materials used for fabric, wallcovering, and trims
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and thorough
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritize tasks in a highly productive environment, and work efficiently under pressure
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and interest in both creative and technical aspects of design
  • Confidence and clarity in communication

Salary Range

$55,000 - $60,000 USD
