THE ROLE

We are seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative research associate co-op who will function under the guidance and mentorship of scientists in Pioneering Medicines’ Mechanism of Action – Metabolic Disease team. The Metabolic Disease team is responsible for performing proof of concept studies and supporting the drug discovery project teams. The purpose of this team is to perform deep characterization of novel and emerging drug candidates, being able to design and carry out critical decision enabling studies through direct laboratory work, collaborating in a cross-functional capacity and overseeing related work at CROs. 

The co-op will work alongside Pioneering Medicines’ scientists to develop experience and expertise in drug discovery. There will be opportunities to develop technical skillsets in the lab, and to learn and participate in the drug discovery process within project team meetings. The co-op scientist will be responsible for designing, performing and analyzing experiments, maintaining an accurate and up-to-date lab notebook as well as communicating and presenting data to department and drug discovery project teams.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Hands-on experience laboratory skills and experience in molecular biology, cellular biology and cell culture desired
• Background in adipose or muscle biology preferred
• Strong work ethic and a passion for benchwork 
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
• Effective and proactive communication
• A collaborative, team player and good lab citizen

The salary range for this role is $20 - $40. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience. Pioneering Medicines currently offers healthcare coverage, annual incentive program, retirement benefits and a broad range of other benefits.
