Position Summary:

Metaphore Biotechnologies is seeking an enthusiastic Machine Learning Co-op to join our ML-guided therapeutic discovery and development engine for a 6-month graduate internship.  In this role, you will work with our machine learning scientists and computational biologists to develop, finetune and deploy state-of-the-art ML protein design models and biological language models to tackle key challenges in the design of novel next generation biologics therapeutics.  The ideal candidate will have prior experience with machine learning concepts and codebases (eg. pytorch), as well as a strong familiarity with molecular biology and core concepts in biological sequence analysis.  In this position, they will have the opportunity to work closely with members of our machine learning group in addition to members of Metaphore’s experimental teams to curate high quality training data for biological language models and evaluate validation data for model development.  This position is ideal for someone who will bring experience in state-of-the-art deep learning approaches and their application to biomolecules. This individual will have the opportunity to join a dynamic team and an environment of development and discussion around new ideas to unlock the potential of molecular mimicry for therapeutics development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Curate training and validation data from Metaphore’s internal data repositories.
• Train and evaluate various language modeling architectures.
• Develop design pipelines leveraging trained language models for biomolecule design tasks.
• Develop reproducible analysis code to assess model performance in both predicted outcome and experimental validation data.
• Communicate results, progress and conclusions to colleagues.

Qualifications:

• Mastery of python and pytorch
• Experience with data science and analytics for biological data
• Knowledge of molecular biochemistry and genomics as it pertains to biological sequence analysis (eg. multiple sequence alignments)
• Experience with git and programming best practices. Prior experience with cloud computing and/or ML experiment tracking is a plus.
• Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.

The pay range for this role is $25 - $35 per hour. This role is a short-term engagement that is not eligible for health and welfare benefits. Retirement benefits may be available after completing a set number of hours.
