Member of Technical Staff - Computational Protein Engineer

FutureHouse is a new, non-profit AI-for-science lab using AI to automate research in biology and other complex sciences. We are backed by Eric Schmidt, and our mission is to build AI systems that can scale scientific research and allow humanity to proceed as quickly as possible to find cures for disease, solutions for climate change, and other species-accelerating technologies.

We are seeking AI Research Engineers with experience designing and developing data pipelines and models for LLM training, experimentation, and deployment. We seek candidates who possess a keen desire to use the forefront of ML & AI technology to accelerate scientific research.

This role is based in our San Francisco, CA office.

About the Role:

We are seeking a talented member of technical staff with expertise in computational protein structure and function prediction. Your role will involve collaborative work on AI systems designed to create, optimize, and update proteins based on experimental outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop computational pipelines to design and engineer novel proteins using modern generative models such as RFDiffusion, EvoDiff, Chroma, etc.
  • Design and develop AI systems for protein engineering, integrating closed-loop feedback from experimental outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including AI researchers, biologists, and chemists, to drive innovation in protein design.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in designing and applying computational approaches for protein design, leveraging generative deep learning architectures for protein structure and sequence modeling.
  • Software engineering proficiency in developing scalable and modular Python code
  • Prior experience in bioinformatics, molecular dynamics and molecular biology is a plus.
  • Familiarity with large language models is a plus.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation and excellent medical benefits with low or no cost to you.
  • Flexible time off policies.
  • Opportunity to work in a collaborative, flat-structure environment, dedicated to team science and individual contributions.
  • Access to cutting-edge resources, including wet labs and significant computing power.
  • A chance to join a mission-driven organization at the ground floor, focused on making breakthrough discoveries in science.

Culture:

  • We value a tight-knit and collaborative research environment.
  • Our flat structure promotes rapid iteration and innovation, empowering small, integrated teams to pursue ambitious ideas.
  • We remove common distractions like product engineering and grant writing, allowing you to focus entirely on scientific discovery.

Join us in our mission to revolutionize scientific research and make a lasting impact on the world.
