About FutureHouse

FutureHouse is an AI research lab building an AI Scientist to automate research in biology and other complex sciences.

We are seeking a UI/UX designer with a keen ability for design to help shape the user experience of our agentic scientific discovery engine. You will translate complex AI-driven scientific workflows and data into intuitive, well-signposted, and beautifully designed user experiences. This is a foundational design role: you will establish our design principles, build our design system, and shape how scientists interact with AI agents to accelerate discovery.

In addition to product design, you will also flex into general design duties—including website, branding, and communications design—ensuring that FutureHouse presents a cohesive and unified design language across product, brand, and company touchpoints.

This position is full-time in-person in San Francisco.

The base salary range is $180,000 to $250,000 depending on experience.

Responsibilities 

• Lead the end-to-end product design process for FutureHouse’s scientific discovery platform.
• Translate complex scientific concepts, data visualizations, and AI workflows into clear, elegant, and usable designs.
• Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals to communicate design concepts.
• Establish and evolve a design system that ensures consistency and speed of development.
• Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing to inform design decisions.
• Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure seamless implementation of designs.
• Champion accessibility, intuitive navigation, and thoughtful signposting throughout the platform.
• Flex into general design responsibilities for website, marketing, and branding to ensure cohesion between product and brand.
• Represent the voice of the user in cross-functional discussions with product and science teams.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional experience in product design / UX design with a strong portfolio showcasing elegant solutions to complex workflows.
• Proficiency with modern design tools (Figma preferred; Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, etc. acceptable).
• Strong background in interaction design, information architecture, and visual storytelling.
• Experience designing for complex, data-heavy, or technical domains (e.g., AI, scientific, or enterprise software).
• Ability to conduct user research and usability testing.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards and responsive design principles.
• Comfortable collaborating directly with engineers and scientists.
• Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate.
• Heavily preferred: experience in or ability to handle scientific visualization, computational biology, or data-intensive platforms.
• Bonus: exposure to brand design, marketing design, or communications design.
• Bonus: experience with design for AI/ML-driven products.
