Naval Operations Lead

Position Overview

G2IT is seeking an experienced Naval Operations Lead to support mission-critical operations within a Department of Defense environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive U.S. Navy or Joint operational experience in Command and Control (C2), Naval Fires, and maritime planning while also bringing a strong understanding of modern DevSecOps, cloud technologies, and software delivery practices.

This role requires a strategic leader capable of bridging operational military expertise with advanced technical capabilities to support planning, execution, and modernization initiatives across naval operations.

Security Clearance Requirements

  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance or TS/SCI eligible with a completed Tier 5 investigation at the time of submission.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of operational U.S. Navy or Joint military experience in Command and Control (C2) and Naval Fires.
  • Experience supporting Carrier Strike Group (CSG) operations and/or Maritime Operations Center (MOC) planning.
  • Graduate of a U.S. military Command and Staff College or possess an equivalent documented warfare qualification (e.g., Surface Warfare Officer).
  • Strong understanding of naval operational planning, maritime operations, and joint force integration.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desired Technical Experience

Containerization & Orchestration

  • Experience implementing and managing containerized applications using Docker, Podman, and Buildah.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining Kubernetes and OpenShift environments.
  • Proficiency using Helm for application deployment and lifecycle management.

DevSecOps & CI/CD

  • Experience developing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins, and AWS CodeBuild.
  • Knowledge of software release management, automation, and continuous integration best practices.

Cloud & Infrastructure Automation

  • Experience automating infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using Terraform, Ansible, and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and supporting cloud-based solutions in AWS and Azure environments.

Systems Administration

  • Strong experience administering Linux operating systems including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, and Ubuntu.

Scripting & Automation

  • Proficiency developing automation solutions and operational scripts using Bash, Python, and PowerShell.

Software Development

  • Experience developing full-stack applications using technologies such as:
    • Java
    • Python
    • TypeScript
    • React
    • SQL

Agile & Collaboration Tools

  • Experience leveraging Atlassian tools including:
    • Jira
    • Confluence
    • Bitbucket
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and team collaboration practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support naval operational planning efforts related to Command and Control (C2), Naval Fires, and maritime operations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for Carrier Strike Group and Maritime Operations Center planning activities.
  • Support modernization initiatives through the integration of cloud, DevSecOps, and containerized technologies.
  • Collaborate with military, government, and contractor personnel to develop operational solutions and mission requirements.
  • Guide technical teams in implementing secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure and software solutions.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, operational procedures, and technical artifacts supporting mission objectives.
  • Participate in strategic planning, operational assessments, and mission execution activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense programs and operational environments.
  • Familiarity with Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) concepts.
  • Experience supporting Navy modernization, maritime operations, and mission engineering initiatives.
  • AWS and/or Azure cloud certifications.
  • Kubernetes, DevSecOps, or Agile certifications.
