Bermuda Finance, Senior Analyst

The Bermuda Finance, Senior Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Bermuda reinsurance companies and the company’s Institutional business segment by delivering accounting and control functions. A key goal for this role is to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial information and regulatory filings. The Senior Analyst will support the broader team of financial reporting professionals, completing validation of information provided by company sources. The Senior Analyst will monitor results and produce exception reports along with fluctuation analyses to ensure the team achieves the timeframes and reporting standards required by their stakeholders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparation of regulatory reporting on US GAAP, US Statutory, Bermuda Statutory and Bermuda Economic balance sheet bases for multiple reinsurers as well as execution of control processes.
- Monthly and quarterly closing procedures, including tracking availability of information, reviewing variances in trend or expected levels, producing control and flash reports, preparing reconciliations.
- Assist with the preparation of BSCR asset schedules and supporting calculations
- Monthly & quarterly dividend analysis
- Investigate unanticipated variances, providing timely feedback to source areas to ensure that issues are addressed promptly within close timeframes.
- Participate in analytical review of performance of the reinsurance and borrower entities. This will include flux analyses, actual to expected reviews and identification of key drivers.
- Timely planning, preparation and compilation of quarterly and annual financial reports, footnotes and supporting documentation.
- Support system enhancements and recommend process/system and automation improvements.
- Perform quarterly review & analysis of net investment income and net cost of insurance.
- Assist with training and coaching junior staff
- Partner with other teams to identify potential solutions to issues, play a key contributor role in tactical design, testing plan and then deliver user acceptance testing
Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 4+ years of relevant work experience required; recent experience in life insurance with reinsurance exposure is preferred
- Studying towards a CPA, CA or other comparable professional accounting designation
- Working experience with of US GAAP required
- Bermuda Statutory accounting and Bermuda Economic Balance Sheet experience preferred
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills as well as demonstrated proactiveness, good attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence others and communicate across all areas of the company
- Demonstrated experience assessing performance vs prior and expected on an insurance business
- Experience delivering audit requests and explanations, building and performing controls
- History of participating in process and automation design, development and testing and ability to thrive in a fast paced, complex environment
- Proven ability to work in a cross-functional team
- High proficiency in MS Excel required.
- Familiarity with Essbase, Hyperion, W Desk, Tableau, Power Query and other reporting and analysis applications a plus
