What you’ll do 

You will be expected to work across a set of clients and support Directors & Partners by taking ownership of a project delivery from start to finish including: 

  • Deliver robust analytics outputs that meet statistical requirements and make business sense.  
  • Deliver a project on time to Gain Theory's high standards. Manage a project effectively to ensure that revenue targets are met, and profit margins are not compromised.  
  • Leading and developing a team of analysts. Provide clear, direct and supportive feedback. 
  • Presentation building and actionable insight generation.  
  • Identify cross-sell and up-sell opportunities.  
  • Develop relationships with counterpart’s client and agency side and be an externally facing ambassador for the Gain Theory brand.   
  • Take on additional tasks, examples of these are: creating marketing content, developing products & services, and supporting the development of Gain Theory analysts. 

 

Key Characteristics 

A successful candidate must be able to demonstrate evidence of a high degree curiosity and investigation into why things work in a particular way. This might include desk research on a particular topic or deep focus on a recent client assignment. If selected for interview, candidate must be prepared to talk on a particular topic within the realms of analytics or business questions that we typically answer that they are passionate about. Examples might be “Why is my base my base?”, “What is the long-term effect of my marketing and why?”, “Dealing with uncertainty and building in foresight”, etc.  

Key responsibilities include: 

Working with data: Data extraction and manipulation, data analysis and validation, batch files, programming 

  • Take responsibility for or manage data collection including preparation and sending of data requests to clients and agencies. 
  • Oversee junior team members dealing with incoming data feeds.   
  • Check data for accuracy and oversee the creation of data validation documents. 
  • Coordinate data questions with the client and solve data discrepancies found. 
  • Able to use codes written by others to manipulate data. 

Building Models: Model building, validation and signing off, media optimisation 

  • Oversee data transformation, model build and signoff (with senior support initially).  
  • Be an expert in the use of Bayesian and Frequentist approaches with regards to time series econometrics. 
  • Ensure the quality of the analysis meets standards set. Therefore, challenging and supporting the project Analysts where necessary to ensure high standards of delivery and insight.  
  • Conduct variable testing and a solid understanding of media testing and variable selection 
  • Take ownership of final model selection, initially with guidance from a senior colleague, but work hard to learn the processes and improve your own model sign-off capabilities such that less guidance is required over time. 

Insight Generation: Content creation, summary of findings, accuracy checks 

  • You will provide support to the client lead during the results interpretation and output creation phase.  
  • Assisting the client lead in converting models into client output. 
  • Understand the implications of results to the client and be able to give solid rationale for the results you propose to be delivered. 
  • Make sure the insights & recommendations are actionable.  
  • Take ultimate responsibility for the accuracy of all numbers in a presentation.  

Project & Resource Management: Project management, timing plans, tasks allocation, project delivery 

  • Identify measures that could be used to improve performance. 
  • Liaise with other members of the to agree on lead times for each stage of the project and confirm these with the project lead and global project manager before committal. 
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of your modelling team, using resources at your disposal to their full potential. 
  • Take responsibility for day-to-day client relationship/contact. 
  • Ensure that the project is delivered on time, learn how to calculate and monitor if this was within the budget. Ensure quality and content meets objectives set. 
  • Ensure team celebrates successes. 
  • Grow your understanding of the company’s people and capabilities. 

Team Support & Development: Team collaboration, leadership, communication 

  • Lead by setting a good example (role model) – behaviour consistent with words; motivate and inspire. 
  • Assign team members with tasks that allow them to meet their personal goals and objectives. 
  • Assist team members in interpreting the tasks they have been set. 
  • Facilitate problem solving and collaboration.  
  • Intervene when necessary to aid the group in resolving issues. 
  • Identify and acknowledge team members’ individual strengths and nurture skills to the benefit of the team. 
  • Ensure that any staff experiencing performance difficulties are managed appropriately and work to identify measures that could be used to improve performance. 
  • Identify training and development needs jointly with team members and their personal managers. 
  • Take responsibility for the identifying talented professionals on your team, passing on this information to the project lead and their personal manager. 
  • Start to take responsibility for creating an environment oriented to trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive team effort. Take a more holistic (less day to day) view of things. 
  • Provide the team with a vision of the project objectives; initially support may be required from more senior members in the team. 

 

Business Development: New business development, client retention, business development planning, management and research 

  • Lead by setting a good example (role model) – behaviour consistent with words; motivate and inspire. 
  • Support client leads in achieving revenue targets. 
  • Support client leads in achieving revenue targets and with tasks relating to pitch material creation or internal product and services collateral / R&D etc. 
  • Attend conferences, meetings and industry events particularly when these are for your industry vertical or horizontal specialties.
