SUMMARY

As a key member of the Legal Department, you will have direct and regular interaction with senior legal, investment, and operational professionals across the firm. You will have responsibility for coordinating, negotiating, and documenting complex investment transactions on behalf of our client funds. This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney seeking a hands-on role in private equity, infrastructure, real estate, and credit transactions.

You will lead or support critical legal workstreams across multiple investment initiatives, with particular emphasis on co-investment and direct investment activities, providing strategic legal guidance and ensuring documentation supports the firm’s and clients’ goals.

As an onsite/hybrid employee, you are expected to be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES          

Investment Structuring, Negotiation & Documentation

  • Lead end-to-end legal review, assessment, and negotiation of transaction documentation related to co-investments, direct investments and secondary market transactions on behalf of GCM Grosvenor’s client funds.
  • Partner closely with GCM Grosvenor’s investment and tax professionals to structure transactions that optimize client outcomes while managing risk and compliance considerations.
  • Manage coordination with external counsel, counterparties, and internal stakeholders to drive transactions to timely and efficient close.
  • Provide legal analysis on novel or complex investment structures across asset classes and jurisdictions.

Product and Client Documentation

  • Collaborate with product, legal, and compliance teams to analyze and advise on governance and structural considerations impacting new and existing client relationships.
  • Draft, review, and assist in the preparation of investment product offering documents, subscription agreements, and other client-facing materials.
  • Support ongoing documentation updates and client requests, ensuring alignment with regulatory and contractual requirements.

 Cross-Functional Collaboration and Legal Operations

  • Serve as a trusted legal resource for the broader firm, facilitating seamless communication and issue resolution across legal, compliance, investment, and operations teams.
  • Assist with legal research, internal training, and development of best practices to improve efficiency and quality of legal deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance the legal team’s contribution to firm-wide strategic objectives.

 

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Juris Doctor; admitted to practice in Illinois (or eligible for admission).
  • 4-6 years of transactional experience at a national law firm (preferably with a focus on private equity and infrastructure) or in-house at a financial services firm.
  • Proven track record of leading negotiation and drafting of complex commercial contracts and investment documentation.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills, with an ability to distill complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and desire to learn and support new areas of the business.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of influencing and collaborating with professionals at all organizational levels.
  • Self-starter with a proactive mindset, high integrity, and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of tasks through to completion.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on balancing precision with practical business considerations.

Actual base salary may vary based on factors such as individual's experience, skills, and qualifications for the role.  Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on factors such as individual, team, and company performance as well as a comprehensive benefits package.

CHICAGO ANNUAL PAY RANGE

$200,000 - $250,000 USD
