The firm is seeking a transformational leader to drive improvements to their Application Development environment, striking the needed balance between hands-on technical acumen and commercial and strategic aptitude.

Position Summary

General Atlantic is looking for a Head of Application Development to join the Information Technology team in the New York office. This role will report to our Chief Information Officer.  

Responsibilities 

 

  • Define and execute on the strategic roadmap and application architecture for the firm
  • Provide strategic advice to senior management with goal of leveraging applications to extend competitive position of General Atlantic
  • Partner with IT and business leaders to identify, evaluate and prioritize Application Development initiatives, assess feasibility, design integration into the broader application architecture and align with resource capacity and expertise
  • Lead an application development team across internally developed software, third-party SaaS platforms and production support/operations of the platforms
  • Develop and maintain platforms that are highly adopted, high-performing, available, scalable and secure
  • Lead vendor evaluations and buy vs. build processes, and manage relationships, contracts and service levels with third-party technology vendors
  • Foster and manage third-party vendors as an extension of the Application Development team where required for increased capacity. 
  • Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders across the firm at all levels and varying technical expertise, soliciting feedback and managing expectations.
  • Continually assess users’ needs and compile feedback to drive value-optimized continuous improvement of internal and external client experience
  • Own and continuously improve application development technical stack, tools, practices and processes
  • Partner with peer technology and infrastructure teams to foster an environment of the right tools and practices (e.g. knowledge management, work management etc.) for application development and Information Technology as a whole; including sponsoring automation efforts to reduce manual overhead
  • Drive the adoption of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to reduce manual effort and ensure robust system operations
  • Develop and execute a strategy to reduce technical debt and ensure application environments stay aligned with architectural standards
  • Manage IT budget, resourcing and project planning process for Application Development
  • Lead annual performance management and other HCM processes for the Application Development team
  • Mentor and develop internal staff to maximize team performance

 

Qualifications 

 

  • 12+ years of experience in similar role; Private Equity experience is preferred, but a track record of leading and operating in the investment management/capital markets sector is required
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related STEM field preferred
  • Advanced degree, MS, or MBA, a plus
  • Experienced with full-stack cloud-native development and DevOps methodologies – React, C# .NET, git, etc. 
  • Player/coach – will primarily serve as a coach in a leadership role with ability and willingness to rollup sleeves, as needed
  • Experience with 1+ of General Atlantic’s core third-party SaaS platforms: Salesforce, Anaplan, Workday – with experience managing the vendor relationship
  • Experience leading evaluations/selections/management of 3rd party software products and service providers (consultants, managed services)
  • Strong people manager and stakeholder management skills
  • Leadership, communication – ability to translate technology to non-technical users and excellent verbal, written and formal presentation skills
  • Record of collaboration with functional peers and business partners to deliver cross-functionally
  • Program and project management skills that reflect a record of delivering complex, mission critical initiatives on time, on budget while meeting agreed strategic outcomes
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies and associated tools – Atlassian Jira, Confluence and Azure DevOps
