IT Procurement Specialist

Los Angeles, CA

About the Company

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States.

Our mission is to restore America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel—fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors.

Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society.

We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.

Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.

About This Role

General Matter is seeking an IT Procurement Specialist to own purchasing for the technology that supports our engineering teams, facilities, and business operations. You will source hardware, software, and services for corporate and security-sensitive environments, working closely with IT, Information Security, Engineering, Finance, and Supply Chain.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can turn technical requirements into accurate orders, negotiate effectively, and get critical equipment delivered on schedule. You should be comfortable challenging a quote, chasing a delayed shipment, and building purchasing processes that keep pace with a rapidly growing company without compromising security or financial discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Own procurement of computers, servers, storage, networking equipment, software, and IT services, from initial request and competitive sourcing through purchase order, delivery, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Partner with technical teams to validate specifications and configurations, forecast demand, and secure long-lead equipment ahead of hiring, facility buildouts, and deployment milestones.
  • Build relationships with manufacturers and authorized resellers; negotiate pricing, delivery commitments, licensing, warranties, and support terms while balancing cost, schedule, and supplier risk.
  • Coordinate with Information Security and Legal to complete required reviews before purchase, use approved sourcing channels, verify equipment provenance, and prevent unauthorized substitutions or disclosure of sensitive information.
  • Track open orders, expedite critical shipments, resolve receiving discrepancies, and coordinate equipment handoff to IT with accurate purchasing, serial-number, and warranty records.
  • Manage software and support renewals, track spending and license entitlements, and improve purchasing workflows to reduce delays, eliminate unnecessary costs, and maintain clear ownership and audit-ready records.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in IT procurement, technical purchasing, or technology vendor management, including direct responsibility for hardware and software purchases.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise IT equipment, software licensing, and support contracts, with the ability to review technical bills of materials and identify missing or inconsistent quote details.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate commercial terms, hold suppliers accountable, and resolve delivery or purchasing issues without constant oversight.
  • Experience using purchasing or ERP systems and spreadsheets to manage purchase orders, spending, delivery schedules, and renewals.
  • Strong attention to detail, clear communication, and sound judgment when handling sensitive information and competing priorities.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Procurement experience in aerospace, defense, nuclear, or other security-sensitive engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting classified or export-controlled programs, including supplier qualification, supply-chain traceability, and controlled receiving requirements.
  • Familiarity with software licensing, offline activation, and vendor-support restrictions in isolated or air-gapped environments.
  • Experience purchasing data-center infrastructure and negotiating with enterprise hardware manufacturers, software publishers, and value-added resellers.
  • Experience building practical, scalable purchasing processes at a fast-growing company or supporting simultaneous deployments across multiple facilities.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to come into our office every day. This role is 100% on site and in person.
  • Currently a US Citizen with capability to obtain and maintain a US Q clearance.
