This role oversees enterprise infrastructure, IT operations, service delivery, and the end user experience across a growing, commercial-stage biotech organization.

The Senior Director manages a small internal team while also overseeing an external Managed Service Provider (MSP) responsible for help desk, infrastructure management, cloud services, and end user support. This leader will drive operational excellence, strengthen our technology foundation, mature IT processes, and ensure the company’s systems can support rapid organizational scaling.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Infrastructure & Cloud Services

  • Own the strategy, design, and lifecycle management of enterprise infrastructure (network, servers, storage, identity, M365, collaboration tools, cloud platforms).
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability for commercial and R&D functions.
  • Partner with the MSP to manage cloud environments (AWS/Azure/M365), including monitoring, patching, backup, and DR.
  • Evaluate and deploy modern infrastructure technologies that improve reliability and reduce operational overhead.

IT Operations & Service Delivery

  • Lead IT operational processes including incident, request, change, asset, and configuration management.
  • Establish and track KPIs/SLAs for the MSP—ensuring optimal service performance and user satisfaction.
  • Continuously optimize IT operations for efficiency, cost, and quality of service.
  • Implement governance, standards, and documentation for all IT operational domains.

End User Services & Support

  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality end user support through the MSP and internal staff.
  • Drive initiatives to improve digital employee experience, device strategy, onboarding/offboarding, and workplace technology.
  • Ensure timely escalation and resolution of high-impact issues, acting as a senior point of contact for critical incidents.

Security & Compliance

  • Partner with the Security/Compliance/QA teams to ensure infrastructure and operations adhere to regulatory requirements (SOX, GxP, data privacy).
  • Implement security best practices across endpoints, identity, network, and cloud systems.
  • Participate in audits and maintain documentation for compliance-related activities.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as a senior leader within IT—supporting strategic planning, roadmaps, and budget management.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a small internal team focused on infrastructure and operations.
  • Lead vendor and contract management for MSP and related service providers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Commercial, Finance, HR, and Facilities leaders to enable business goals through technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 5 years leading infrastructure, operations, or service delivery teams.
  • Experience managing or working closely with MSPs or outsourced service models.
  • Strong expertise in modern IT infrastructure: networks, SaaS, cloud (Azure/AWS), identity (Azure AD/Entra), M365, endpoint management, security tooling.
  • Proven success operating in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, vendors, and enterprise-wide projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in biotech, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Exposure to GxP, SOX, 21 CFR Part 11, or similar compliance frameworks.
  • Experience scaling systems and processes for a company transitioning to commercial operations.
  • ITIL certification or practical experience implementing ITIL-based processes.
