This isnât your average summer internship. You wonât be stuck doing âintern work.â In this 4 week internship, youâll be solving problems, shipping code, and learning from engineers who genuinely care about mentoring the next generation.
đ„ Meet the team:
Technology at Genio is a cross-functional function made of Engineering, Product, Product Marketing, User Experience, Customer Experience and Data. This filters down to our product squads where we have at least one team member from each discipline working together to build the best product for our users and customers.
Youâll be working alongside our four stream-aligned squads; Buyer Admin & Distribute (known internally as BEAR), Note-taking (known internally as GOAT), Learning (known internally as Egg) or Buyer HE solution.
Youâll be managed by one of the Engineering Line Managers;
Natasha (owner of dog Bailey), Bruce (a man with a large vocabulary), Charlene (owner of dog Spud), or Mark (Nomad policy champion, Genio Pride Organiser) who are either Engineering Managers, Software Engineers or Platform Engineers themselves.
Mala is our Head of Engineering, if youâd like to know more about joining Genio, you can hear about her onboarding here.
đȘ What youâll be doing:
- Coding â Write clean, testable code with support from experienced engineers, contributing to real product features.
- Debugging â Get hands-on with identifying and fixing bugs, using tools and techniques you'll learn on the job.
- Testing â Write and run unit tests to help ensure the quality and stability of your code.
- Collaborating â Work alongside engineers, product managers, designers, and testers to bring ideas to life.
- Learning â Join code reviews, take part in pair programming, and seek feedback to sharpen your skills.
- Problem-Solving â Tackle real technical challenges with the help of documentation, mentorship, and a curious mindset.
- Growing â Build confidence with tools, languages, and frameworks we use at Genio â and discover what kind of engineer you want to be.
- Participating â Join squad ceremonies like stand-ups and retrospectives, becoming a full member of the team.

We typically operate a hybrid way of working, which means you would work in the office about 2 days a week and remotely the rest of the time. However weâd be willing to consider how to make it work for someone who canât get to Leeds as regularly as that, though some office visits would be expected.
We will discuss ways of working with you at interview however if you have any questions before you apply please reach out to recruitment@Genio.co
đ°Salary and support:
The internship is paid - ÂŁ2,000 for the full 4 week programme, based on full time working hours (37.5 hours per week). If youâre working part time hours, the amount will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. Please talk to us about your preferred working pattern.
đTravel costs to our Leeds office may be reimbursed - weâll confirm details at offer stage.

Deadline for Applications: Friday 11th July 2025
2. Video Assessment - If your application is successful, weâll invite you to submit a short video answering a few questions (which youâll receive in advance!).
