What you'll do:
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be the subject-matter expert and technical lead on advanced engineering projects and complex mechanical engineering issues. This role works closely with internal and external stakeholders including contract manufacturers and suppliers.
How you'll make an impact
- Lead and oversee advanced engineering projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Provide technical leadership to the engineering team, guiding them in solving complex engineering problems and optimizing engineering processes.
- Develop and maintain detailed mechanical designs, including harness and cable schematics, utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and documentation controls throughout the design and manufacturing process.
- Oversee the creation of engineering prototypes and conduct testing and qualification to validate designs and meet project requirements.
- Streamline production processes by identifying inefficiencies and implementing improvements to enhance productivity and quality.
- Collaborate closely with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure timely delivery and quality of components and assemblies.
- Assist production teams with jig tooling and design to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Mentor and train team members, including engineers and interns, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Conduct stack-up/tolerance analysis and review to ensure dimensional accuracy and product performance.
- Manage engineering projects from concept through production, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and engineering specifications.
- Review first article samples and oversee Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) sign-offs
- Provide proactive design solutions aligned with future project roadmaps and business objectives.
- Participate in strategic planning sessions and contribute to innovation initiatives within the engineering department.
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on injection molding processes and other relevant manufacturing technologies.
- Mentor and guide engineers and provide technical expertise and support.
What you'll bring to the role
- Bachelors in Engineering - Mechanical Engineering
- 10 - 12 years of experience in the following areas:
- Mechanical engineering, design and development.
- Designing complex mechanical components and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), while ensuring cost efficiency and quality.
- Applying mechanical analysis and simulation tools, such as finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
- Prototyping, testing, and validating mechanical systems and components.
- Leading and managing complex engineering projects from concept through to delivery.
- Collaborating and communicating with cross-functional teams, including senior leadership, suppliers and contractors.
- Identifying risks in projects and implementing strategies to mitigate them.
- Leading and mentoring a team of engineers.
- Electromechanical Injection molded automotive products.
- SolidWorks modeling, advanced surface modeling (preferred).
- Working with Ruggedized devices and extreme condition testing (preferred).
- Experience with SAE J1455, SAE J1692 and ISO 9001 standards.
- Working in the automotive, telematics, manufacturing industry.
