Geotab is seeking a Senior Team Lead, Embedded Development who will lead and grow an embedded development team within Geotab’s Automotive department while working with Embedded Linux, RTOS and bare metal based IOXs. What you'll do:
As a Senior Team Lead, Embedded Development your key area of responsibility will be to manage a team of 8-12 Embedded Developers while providing technical oversight to the team. This team’s core focus is to design and develop the next generation of Embedded Linux or RTOS or bare-metal based IOXs. The team’s responsibility also includes building monitors that query Geotab’s Big Data environment, maintain and support current products in the market, add or enhance current products, design and develop new IOX products in collaboration with other teams. This position will work closely with colleagues within the Embedded Engineering department, as well as Product group, Solutions Engineering, Software Development, and key leadership stakeholders.
How you'll make an impact
- Manage the ongoing design and development of the bare-metal or RTOS, or Embedded Linux based IOX platform.
- Enforce coding standards and perform peer code reviews for designated teams.
- Work with Lead developers to facilitate stand-ups, retrospectives, and planning sessions to prioritize development activity, ensure open lines of communication, and encourage discussion within the team to drive improvements in quality and velocity of execution.
- Participate in regular department leadership meetings and provide project leadership.
- Participate in Geotab’s Change Management process as a “Change Approver”, reviewing and approving firmware change requests made by the team.
- Mentor developers by helping them solve technical problems in collaboration with Lead developers, advise on design and implementation details.
- Identify the need for new resources (people, skills, tools, etc.) within your team and work with manager or department leaders to address them.
- Maintain documentation for all areas of responsibility.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of Embedded Development guidelines, policies, standards and processes.
- Provide expert project leadership and guidance to the team as SME.
- Oversee the activities and performance of direct reports:
- Support Geotab global strategic initiatives.
What you'll bring to the role
- 6+ years of proven experience in embedded development using C, C++, etc.
- 3+ years of proven experience in embedded Linux based development.
- 3+ years of relevant people management experience/people leadership.
- Exposure and/or experience with RTOS.
- Experience with SCRUM and Agile development practices is highly valued.
- Experience using Python, Rust, SQL, and/or Google BigQuery highly valued.
- Experience with IoT devices, sensors, wireless communication, and data transport protocols (USB, NFC, BLE, CAN) are highly valued.
- High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with delivering presentations and training.
- Leadership experience in a team-oriented workplace.
- A strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
- Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
- Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in a flat organization.
