What you'll do:
The International Payroll and Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing timely payroll administration to the Geotab group of companies, ensuring employment standard compliance and managing employees’ queries regarding all aspects of payroll.
How you'll make an impact
- Prepare, validate and process payroll in accordance with payroll schedule.
- Review payroll period changes: new hires, position changes, salary changes and terminations for accuracy and ensure that all supporting data are in place.
- Process pay period adjustments and manual payments when needed.
- Download, review and validate payroll reports and journal entries including payroll accruals.
- Prepare periodic taxable benefits reconciliations and updates.
- Monitor employees’ entitlement balances to avoid excessive balances and overpayments.
- Review changes to employment standards legislation to ensure payroll compliance.
- Assist in preparation year-end tax forms and annual payroll reconciliations.
- Answer employees’ questions about wages, deductions, attendance, and time records.
- Prepare internal audit reports for the senior management team.
- Handle enrolments and terminations for investment and retirement savings plans and perform regular reconciliations to maintain plan accuracy.
- Work closely with internal teams on benefit requirements for leaves of absence requests and disability paperwork.
What you'll bring to the role
- Diploma/Degree specialization in Business, Finance, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in international payroll.
- Understanding of payroll methodology, payroll taxes, employment standards, general health plan and benefits and worker's compensation.
- Mathematical skills, accounting and bookkeeping skills. Corporate accounting and financial management experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of technology and those IT related controls that impact accounting and auditing record keeping systems.
- High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent proofreading abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English).
- Verbal and written communication skills in one or more of the following languages: French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem solve well-judged decisions.
- A strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
- Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides.)
- Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in a flat organization.
