Geotab is seeking a Senior Embedded Developer for Software In the Loop (SIL) who will be primarily responsible for designing, writing, and validating code for scalable automated testing of Geotab’s telematics devices. What you'll do:
As a Senior Embedded Developer for SIL, your key area of responsibility will be designing, implementing, and testing robust Python and Go Lang tools to drive robust testing of our embedded products. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving testing tools and processes to ensure new releases perform as expected. You will also help determine the architecture and constraints of each project. You will need to work closely with other embedded developers, engineers, and internal technical teams.
To be successful in this role you will be a collaborative problem-solver with strong communication skills, and have the ability to work effectively within a technical team. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong programming skills in Python and Go Lang and a deep understanding of software testing and embedded systems design. The successful candidate will also be able to manage development priorities to ensure timely and high-quality results.
How you'll make an impact:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the Geotab embedded devices (such as GO Tracking Devices, GO Focus dashcams, and GO Anywhere asset trackers) firmware and how various modules work.
- Perform software development of product testing infrastructure for our embedded products using Go, Python, C, and Rust as per the development standards
- Practice test driven development of our test infrastructure and tooling, writing unit, integration and system tests for our infrastructure and embedded products
- Write SQL queries and Python scripts on data from Google BigQuery to determine infrastructure health and effectiveness of new functionality.
- Conduct comprehensive testing and code reviews to ensure that industry coding standards are followed.
- Keep up-to-date documentation for all areas of responsibility.
- Familiar with data structures, algorithms, and design patterns common to software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop test systems
- Able to research and solve open-ended design problems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate and document complex technical systems and decisions.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work well under pressure and respond to multiple fast changing priorities.
- Strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.

What you'll bring to the role:
- Bachelors in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of previous experience in automated testing of Linux/embedded systems
- Demonstrated experience in developing containerized (e.g. Docker), microservices environments geared towards scalable cloud deployments
- Software testing methodologies using software-in-the-loop systems
- Simulation experience - particularly for vehicles/automotive or for embedded systems.
- Strong knowledge of programming languages Go Lang (highly desirable), Python and OOP.
- Strong knowledge of Runtime/Memory/Performance of SW, and Data Structures/Algorithms
- Experience in embedded systems development with multitasking real-time operating systems.
- Experience with Linux, Gitlab and POSIX environments.
- Experience with Agile methodologies such as SCRUM.
- Experience or exposure with SQL for leveraging big data for firmware development.
- Experience working within a technical or engineering organization, with knowledge of the high-technology/telematics industry is an asset.
