Who you are:

We're always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Manager, Embedded Engineering who will lead a team of firmware and software developers with the design and development of Geotab’s embedded products for use within the Geotab ecosystem. What you'll do:

As a Manager, Embedded Engineering, your key area of responsibility will be managing, measuring and implementing an Agile development process for all teams within the group, participating in various cross-functional meetings, removing roadblocks for team members, and overseeing the activities and performance of direct reports. You will need to work closely with other development teams on design and implementation of features spanning multiple products.

To be successful in this role you will be able to work well under pressure and respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong leadership skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

How you'll make an impact:

  • Determines the strategy and vision for the embedded software development group in conjunction with the VP and other senior leaders.

  • Determines the projects and tasks that are required of the group.

  • Manage the group's expectations with regards to task assignments, work arrangements and other department expectations.

  • Responsible for Geotab’s embedded software device suite, including the design and development of all new embedded products

  • Works closely with senior department leaders in defining, implementing, and managing the product development process.

  • Ensure work progress stays on schedule and update stakeholders on project status.

  • Manage, measure and implement an Agile development process for all teams within the group

  • Participate in various cross-functional meetings, removing roadblocks for team members as required.

  • Collaborate with other development teams on design and implementation of features spanning multiple products.

  • Support Geotab global strategic initiatives.

  • Responsible for executing overall direction, providing input on team culture and operational priorities, and championing vision and direction.

  • Develop goals (KPAs) with team members and develop tasks with direction from Associate Vice President/Vice President.

  • Acts as an advisor to subordinates and provides guidance on achieving tasks within established processes.

  • Manages full-time employees and interns, overseeing processes within a team with an operational focus.

  • Exercises independent judgment within defined policies and procedures.

  • Makes independent decisions related to resources and tactical operations for projects involving their team or business area.

  • Has a moderate influence on the department, with some results having impact on costs and objectives.

  • Collaborates and support employees during the performance management process, meeting KPAs and career development planning

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma specialization in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.

  • 8+ years experience in embedded software design and development.

  • 2+ years experience managing and developing teams.

  • Success with coaching and development of employees.

  • Strong interpersonal relationship building skills.

  • Must stay relevant to technology and should have the flexibility to adapt to the growing technology and market demands.

  • Strong team player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.

  • Technical competence using software programs, including but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in a flat organization.
