What you'll do:
As a Tax Manager your key area of responsibility will be preparing, analyzing, and reviewing all corporate and indirect tax compliance for Geotab's global entities, managing cross-border tax activities, and conducting tax research to support global expansion planning. You will oversee tax filings across multiple jurisdictions including Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Australia, manage tax provisions and nexus analysis, and partner with external advisors to identify tax optimization opportunities. You will need to work closely with the Senior Manager, Tax, internal finance and operations teams, external tax advisors, and tax authorities including the CRA and IRS.
To be successful in this role you will be a strategic thinker with exceptional analytical capabilities, strong attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to effectively liaison with stakeholders at all levels. In addition, the successful candidate will have advanced tax technical expertise across multiple jurisdictions, proven project management abilities to handle complex deliverables, and proficiency with tax technology platforms, ERP systems, and financial modeling tools.
How you'll make an impact:

Preparation, analysis, and review of Canadian and U.S. tax compliance, including corporate income tax, indirect tax (e.g., GST/HST, VAT, Sales & Use Tax), informational tax filings, withholding tax filings and other statutory filings across Canada and the U.S.

Preparation, analysis, and review of Canadian and U.S. tax provisions and nexus analysis.

Analyze and review global tax compliance, including corporate income tax, indirect tax (e.g., GST/HST, VAT, Sales & Use Tax), informational tax filings, withholding tax filings, and other statutory filings across global jurisdictions (Europe, Australia, etc.).

Research, analyze, and prepare documentation on global tax positions, including corporate income tax, indirect tax, and withholding tax.

Research and advise other internal departments on global corporate tax, indirect tax, and withholding tax related inquiries.

Assist the Senior Manager, Tax with requests from tax authorities (e.g., CRA, IRS) as well as requests from internal and external auditors.

Assist the Senior Manager, Tax with tax planning required for global expansion.

Assist with tax modelling and partner proactively with external tax advisors to identify opportunities to minimize corporate taxes, indirect taxes, and recommend best practices.

Assist with management of transfer pricing policy to ensure inter-company transactions are prepared in compliance with guidelines.

Support Geotab global strategic initiatives.
What you'll bring to the role:

5-8 years of experience managing tax in a corporate finance function.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.

Master's degree in Taxation or specialized advanced tax courses (e.g., CICA/CPA In-Depth Tax Course) strongly preferred.

CPA/CA designation strongly preferred.

Advanced understanding of corporate income tax laws, indirect tax regulations (e.g., GST/HST, VAT, Sales & Use Tax), and withholding tax requirements with the ability to research, interpret, and apply complex tax laws to real-world business operations.

Significant experience with international tax principles, including transfer pricing policies, cross-border taxation issues, permanent establishment risk, tax treaties, and global tax reforms. (e.g., OECD BEPS guidelines)

Strong proficiency in accounting for income taxes under IFRS, including preparation and review of complex current and deferred tax provisions, uncertain tax positions, and related financial statement disclosures.

Proven ability to identify effective and compliant tax strategies for multinational organizations.

Expertise in identifying, assessing, quantifying, and mitigating complex global tax risks, with experience assisting in the defense of tax audits and controversies with tax authorities. (e.g., CRA, IRS)

Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining robust internal controls for tax compliance and financial reporting processes.

Advanced proficiency in complex tax modeling, data analysis, and reporting using spreadsheet software. (e.g., Google Sheets, Excel)

Experience with major ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365) and tax-specific software and automation tools. (e.g., Taxprep, Avalara)

Strong project management skills with ability to manage complex tax projects, ensuring timely delivery while managing budgets and resources effectively.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing comprehensive tax reports, memos, and presentations, as well as liaising with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and government authorities.
