Geotab is seeking a Database Administrator who will be responsible for keeping the Geotab database up and running smoothly at all times. This position provides a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users. What you'll do:

As a Database Administrator your key area of responsibility will be database/application performance monitoring and tuning in both a development and production-support capacity. You will ensure existing database systems perform well and are properly configured/maintained, establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures, and implement and maintain database security. You will need to work closely with DevOps and support teams.

To be successful in this role you will be a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think algorithmically. In addition, the successful candidate will have high accuracy, meticulous attention to detail, and be a strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Perform database/application performance monitoring and tuning in both a development and production-support capacity.

  • Ensure existing database systems perform well and are properly configured/maintained.

  • Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures in conjunction with the system administrators.

  • Implement and maintain database security.

  • Create and implement plans for database growth and changes; create and document database development and testing standards.

  • Perform database patch management and version control.

  • Develop the required tooling and monitoring in production.

  • Troubleshoot poor performance of queries and produce recommendations, such as indexes, IO subsystem requirements, memory, configuration, SQL query changes etc.

  • Work with DevOps and support teams to ensure that the changes can be applied programmatically to databases as required.

  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotating schedule.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • 3 - 5 years of required previous experience in the following areas: PostgreSQL database administration, CockroachDB, Google Cloud (specifically GCE, Cloud Spanner and CloudSQL), and powershell/bash scripting.

  • Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree; a specialization in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is highly valued.

  • Thorough knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL.

  • Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding, as well as DBA case tools and third party tools.

  • High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Able to work well under pressure and respond to fast-changing priorities and deadlines.

  • A strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
