Geotab is seeking an IT Cloud Operations Engineering Specialist who will support high-transaction, globally distributed physical and cloud infrastructure and develop infrastructure for deploying and managing Geotab’s SaaS solution. What you'll do:

As an IT Cloud Operations Engineering Specialist, your key area of responsibility will be supporting high-transaction, globally distributed cloud infrastructure and developing infrastructure for deploying and managing Geotab’s SaaS solution. You will also be responsible for maintaining data center and cloud operations with a focus on servers and infrastructure management, cost optimization, and security. You will need to work closely with Geotab’s Technical Services teams to refine existing systems and implement advanced methodologies for automation, prioritizing system performance, scalability, and resilience while considering cost efficiency and robust security measures. Additionally, you will incorporate AI into cloud operations to enhance automation, optimize performance, and ensure scalable and resilient infrastructure.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Deploy scheduled and emergency patches and upgrades, minimizing service disruption.

  • Configure, monitor, research, and troubleshoot in a high-availability environment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

  • Provision, maintain, scale, and configure new servers and systems in hosted cloud environments, optimizing performance and scalability.

  • Monitor data flow through multiple data-processing environments, identifying and resolving issues to maintain data integrity and availability.

  • Participate in on-call rotation to support and maintain our cloud infrastructure 24/7, responding to outages based on standard procedures to ensure continuous service availability.

  • Manage cloud resource lifecycle processes, creating and updating standard procedures for provisioning, decommissioning, and maintenance activities to ensure efficient resource management.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to support cloud operations activities, providing insights for performance optimization and decision-making.

  • Maintain Geotab’s internal server inventory, ensuring compliance with standard requirements through implementation, monitoring, and auditing.

  • Automate repetitive tasks using appropriate scripting languages and tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.

  • Monitor monthly data center and cloud costs, create optimization dashboards and thresholds, and identify cost-saving opportunities to ensure cost-effectiveness of physical and cloud resources.

  • Administer and maintain our VMware vSphere environment, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machine management.

  • Configure and manage virtual storage (vSAN) and virtual networking (NSX-T) to ensure optimal performance and connectivity.

  • Develop and execute migration plans for moving workloads between on-premises VMware and Cloud (GCP, AWS).

  • Provide technical security team members with insight regarding technical controls and tool effectiveness to ensure robust security measures.

  • Research data and operational discrepancies based on customer and support team feedback, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with internal departments to enhance operation-related processes, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of cloud operations.

  • Implement and integrate AI technologies to improve operational efficiency and automate processes.

  • Research and recommend AI-driven solutions to enhance monitoring, analysis, and decision-making in cloud operations.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • 3–5 years of experience working in IT/Cloud Operations.

  • Updated with the latest trends and developments in AI to continuously improve cloud operations practices.

  • Experience with IP Networking, Network Security, Firewalls, and Load Balancing in cloud environments.

  • Experience maintaining applications in a Linux and Windows environment.

  • Experience with cloud-based IaaS, PaaS, and/or SaaS, preferably Google or AWS.

  • Experience designing and implementing system automation for monitoring and deploying purposes.

  • Experience with Database Administration, query analysis, and performance tuning for MS-SQL cluster/MySQL clusters/PostgreSQL, BigQuery.

  • Experience with continuous integration, log collection and analysis, and version control systems like GitHub, Gitlab.

  • Strong scripting skills: Bash Shell, PowerShell, Python.

  • In-depth knowledge of VMware virtualization technologies, including vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Chef).

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Strong interpersonal relationship-building skills.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions.

  • Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Computer/IT).

  • Preferred associate cloud certification related to cloud architecture (GCP, AWS), VMware certifications (e.g., VCP)

  • Professional certification in IT (GCP, AWS) is highly valued.
