Geotechnical Driller
Geotechnical Drilling is looking for a Driller to join our Las Vegas office.
SUMMARY:
The Geotechnical Driller manages the rig operations, project coordination, communicates effectively with management, clients, and coworkers, and supervises and directs driller’s helper and subcontractors. The driller ensures that equipment is maintained and operated properly and safely. This requires experience in most job functions with a minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Operate truck-mounted, track-mounted, and portable drilling rigs (auger, hollow-stem auger, mud rotary to obtain disturbed and undisturbed samples, split-spoon samples, and core.
- Set up and rig down equipment, rig up drill rods/collars, install casings, and perform site layout per engineer specifications.
- Assist with sampling procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on drilling equipment, pumps, compressors, and support tools; report major issues to supervisor.
- Monitor drilling parameters (penetration rates, torque, fluid returns) and adjust methods to ensure sample integrity and safety.
- Maintain accurate field records: drill logs, depth checks, recovery and RQD (where applicable), and daily reports.
- Follow health, safety, and environmental protocols: use PPE, implement lockout/tagout, confined space procedures, erosion control, and site decontamination.
- Load/unload and inventory tooling, consumables, and site materials; maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Communicate effectively with site personnel, clients, and subcontractors; escalate issues and unexpected conditions promptly.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade certificate or associate degree in drilling, construction, or related field preferred.
- 1–5 years of drilling or field construction experience; geotechnical drilling experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL strongly preferred or ability to obtain.
- Certifications preferred/desired: OSHA 10/30, confined space entry, H2S awareness, first aid/CPR MSHA.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude; ability to operate heavy equipment and perform routine maintenance.
- Ability to read basic drill logs, borehole diagrams, and work instructions.
- Physical stamina to work outdoors lifting up to 50+ lbs, climb rigs/ladders, and work in varying weather.
- Attention to detail for accurate record keeping.
- Safety Oriented
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving under field conditions.
REQUIRMENTS:
*Valid Driver's License.
*Clean driving record
*CDL and tanker endorsement is a plus
*Must be able to lift 60 plus pounds throughout the day
*Ability to accomplish tasks under adverse weather and/or site conditions.
*Good or corrected vision and manual dexterity.
REPORTING:
Reports to Field Supervisor, Drilling Foreman, or Project Manager.
Pay Range
$30 - $45 USD
