Senior Software Engineer, Construction Financials

Remote (Nashville, TN preferred)

Construction is a $2 trillion industry still held together by spreadsheets, PDFs, and phone calls. Built is changing that. Our Construction Financials platform connects lenders, developers, general contractors, and subcontractors into a single, real-time financial workflow that moves billions of dollars through projects across the country. This is not CRUD. It's multi-tier commitment trees, multi-party budget reconciliation, payment orchestration, and compliance workflows with real financial stakes.

The team is small and autonomous. Five engineers and a product manager. Right now, we're building a new product line targeting CRE owners and developers, our most strategic customer persona, while running growth experiments that push the business forward. This is frontier work, not maintenance.

The Role

We're looking for a senior engineer with the trajectory to grow into staff. You'll own complex features end to end, shape product direction with your PM, and work across the full stack. We're also leaning hard into AI, both in how we build and what we ship, and we need someone who's excited to push us from good to great in that area.

Who You Are

  • Relentlessly curious. You question product decisions, dig into customer behavior, chase anomalous Datadog traces. Not because someone asked, but because you can't help it.
  • Bold. When a path forward isn't obvious, you make a call, ship something, and course-correct. You don't wait for perfect information. You don't need permission to try.
  • Work in the open. The anti-pattern is the engineer who goes heads-down for a week and emerges with something that may or may not be excellent. We solve problems together, in real time, before they get expensive.
  • High ownership. You own your work from idea through production. This team doesn't hand things off and hope for the best.
  • Customer-grounded. You understand that the people using this software are making real capital allocation decisions on live construction projects. You care whether it's right, not just whether it ships.

What We Ask

We can teach you our tools and our domain. We can't teach drive or how to be a great teammate. But you do need a foundation:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building customer-facing applications.
  • Full-stack fluency. Production experience with both frontends and backend APIs.
  • Strong React and TypeScript skills.
  • Solid backend experience with Node.js-based frameworks.
  • Comfort working with AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience writing automated tests and participating in rigorous code reviews.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GraphQL, DynamoDB, event-driven architectures, or microservice patterns.
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Exposure to financial systems, construction technology, or any domain where data integrity directly affects real-world transactions.
  • Background outside traditional enterprise SaaS - construction, real estate, finance, or anywhere you had to learn a complex domain before you could build for it.

Built’s salary range for this position is $140,000 - $200,000 USD per year. The pay range is designed to accommodate upward mobility in the role, therefore it encompasses the full span of proficiency levels for this role and we believe that the midpoint of the range is competitive in the market. Salary is just one component of Built's total compensation package for employees. Your total rewards package at Built will include equity, top-notch medical, dental and vision coverage, an unlimited PTO policy, and other benefits.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
