Based in New York, the Social Media Manager will strengthen Gibson Dunn’s digital presence and elevate our brand across key social media channels. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking, creative storytelling, and data-driven insight, with the ability to translate complex subject matter into engaging content that resonates with clients, legal professionals, and broader audiences.

Global Social Strategy: Play a key role in defining and elevating the social media presence of one of the world’s most respected law firms, building programs that strengthen our brand and connect meaningfully with clients and communities.

Collaborate Across the Firm: Partner with lawyers, business development, client experience, communications, and other business services teams across practices and regions to create cohesive, high-impact social campaigns.

Innovate at Scale: Leverage cutting-edge tools—including AI-powered monitoring, analytics, and content optimization—to evolve our digital presence and deliver data-driven social strategies that grow reach, reputation, and engagement

This role reports to the Chief Client Experience & Communications Officer and will collaborate with Communications, Design, Content, and other colleagues across the Client Experience & Communications team, as well as business development professionals and lawyers worldwide.

Responsibilities include:

Content creation & storytelling

  • Craft compelling social content (copy, graphics, video) tailored to each platform, especially LinkedIn.
  • Translate complex legal and business topics into clear, engaging posts targeting legal experts and clients with appeal to broader audiences.
  • Partner with design and editorial colleagues for consistency with firm voice and tone.
  • Demonstrate superior writing skills, with ability to compellingly for short formats.
Editorial strategy & planning
  • Lead development and execution of the global social media editorial calendar.
  • Ensure coverage of firm-wide initiatives, thought leadership, events, media coverage, accolades, and publications.
  • Develop editorial calendar recommendations for senior stakeholder approval.
Design & social media integration 
  • Partner with design team to create compelling posts leveraging graphics, photography, and content befitting of the Gibson Dunn brand and consistent with firm visual design guidelines.
  • Partner with design to establish industry leading templates that distinguish Gibson Dunn in the marketplace and convey key takeaways for readers.
  • Create user journeys connecting social content to the firm’s website, driving content engagement and actions.
Lawyer support
  • Support attorneys with their social media presence by helping them create posts, as needed.
  • Serve as an internal resource, offering training and guidance on best practices.

Future: Paid Media & Campaigns

  • Plan, run, and optimize paid social campaigns (audience targeting, A/B testing, budget management).

Measurement

  • Define KPIs and performance metrics (e.g., reach, engagement, conversion) to continually refine posts to enrich engagement.
  • Provide regular reporting, insights, and recommendations to executives.

Qualifications:

  • Strong copywriting and visual storytelling skills, with the ability to distill complex topics into accessible messages.
  • Proven ability to align social media strategies with business and brand objectives.
  • Strong project management skills: able to coordinate across global teams and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Analytical mindset with experience using data to refine content strategy and demonstrate ROI.
  • Adaptability and awareness of digital/social trends, with ability to apply innovations appropriately in a professional services context

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience
  • Experience in professional services, legal, or other highly regulated industries preferred.
  • Expertise across major platforms (especially LinkedIn) with deep understanding of algorithms, ad tools, and emerging trends.

Compensation & Benefits:

The annual compensation range for this position is $140,000 - $180,000. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.

Benefits offered for this position include health care; retirement benefits; paid days off, including sick time, and vacation time; parental leave; basic life insurance; Flexible Spending Accounts; as well as discretionary, performance-based bonuses.
