BIM Modeler, Civil (Outdoor & Underground)

Houston, TX. Remote, USA.

About Giga

Giga is building gigawatts of AI data centers to hasten a future of intelligence and abundance. We build data centers fast and at scale by combining the capabilities of an equipment supplier, engineering firm, general contractor, and real estate developer under one roof. Our team moves quickly and thinks practically. If you're ready to make an impact in an industry that matters, we're looking for people like you.

Why join Giga

  • The Pace: We're building at a speed most companies talk about but never actually operate at. If you've been bored somewhere else, you won't be here.
  • The Impact: Every person at Giga touches the work that matters. No layers, no waiting for approval chains. You'll see your fingerprints on what we ship.
  • The Team: A team of operators defining the future of AI infrastructure. We recruit A-players from the most innovative companies in the world, and they choose Giga because the work here means more.
  • The Moment: AI doesn't run without power, and that's us. Giga is the picks and shovels behind the AI revolution. This industry is about to explode, and you'll be in the room where it's already happening.

What you'll do

As BIM Modeler, Civil (Outdoor & Underground), you'll own everything that sits below grade and outside the building line — foundations and equipment pads, electrical duct banks and underground raceway, grounding, and equipment yard layout. On a data center campus this is where the schedule is genuinely won or lost: duct banks have to be right before concrete is poured, and anchor bolts have to match equipment we're already building in our own factory. You'll work in both Revit and AutoCAD, and reconcile Civil 3D surfaces and utility data from our Civil & EPC Lead into the federated model, since translating between these formats is core to the job, not an afterthought. You'll build the outdoor and underground side of our BIM capability rather than maintain someone else's, and be the one person who can say with confidence that this scope is coordinated before anything is poured or shipped.

Where you'll work

We are an in-office culture — velocity matters when you're building physical infrastructure, and the best decisions happen in the room. This role is ideally based in our San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices, with full-time onsite expectations outside of bi-weekly WFH Fridays.

That said, we will make exceptions for truly exceptional talent if you live outside one of our hubs. If you're the right person for this role, we'll have a conversation about what works.

Responsibilities

  • Model foundations, equipment pads, embeds, and anchor bolt setting plans for heavy equipment, coordinated directly against equipment general arrangement drawings
  • Verify anchor bolt and stub-up locations against equipment GAs before pour and before shop release
  • Model electrical duct banks and underground raceway — conduit arrangement, encasement, bend radii, spare capacity, manholes, and pull boxes
  • Model the grounding system — ground grids, rods, conductor routing, and connections to pads, structures, and fence lines
  • Model outdoor structures and equipment yard layout, including electrical clearances, phase spacing, and maintenance access
  • Take in Civil 3D surfaces, utility networks, and survey data and reconcile them into the federated model, including shared coordinates and georeferencing
  • Convert incoming AutoCAD site and utility drawings into native Revit geometry, and produce CAD output back out where required, keeping both in sync
  • Run underground clash cycles in Navisworks — duct bank against foundation, grounding against structure — resolving conflicts rather than just reporting them
  • Build and maintain the parametric Revit family library for repeatable outdoor and underground content — pads, duct bank sections, manholes, and bus supports

What this role do not cover

We are explicit about this because “outdoor and underground” means different things at different firms. You are not the civil Engineer of Record, and you will not be asked to produce a stamped civil permit set. The following sit with our Civil & EPC Lead and our consultants:

  • Site grading design, earthwork balance, and cut-and-fill authoring in Civil 3D
  • Road corridor design, alignments, and stationing
  • Stormwater sizing, detention basin design, and drainage calculations
  • Civil plan-and-profile sheets and the stamped civil permit set
  • Geotechnical design and bearing capacity
  • Survey and topographic data capture, and legal descriptions
  • Utility interconnection engineering with the serving utility

Requirements

  • 5+ years modeling foundations, outdoor structures, and underground services for industrial, energy, substation, or mission-critical projects; commercial or residential experience alone will not transfer
  • Expert-level Autodesk Revit, including structural modeling, family creation, parametric content, worksharing, and shared coordinates
  • Strong AutoCAD fluency — genuinely comfortable moving work in both directions between AutoCAD and Revit without losing accuracy
  • Demonstrated experience modeling underground electrical raceway or duct banks, and foundations, equipment pads, or anchor bolt layouts for heavy equipment
  • Able to read, link, and reconcile Civil 3D data — surfaces, pipe networks, alignments, and survey points — into a Revit model
  • Working knowledge of NEC Article 300.5, NESC / IEEE 605, IEEE 80, ASCE 7, ACI 318, and AISC 360
  • Navisworks proficiency, including running clash tests and resolving interference in your own models
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Bonus points

  • Data center campus experience — multi-block sites, high-density underground electrical distribution, utility interconnection
  • Substation civil and structural work — yard layout, equipment foundations, grounding grids, oil containment
  • Hands-on Civil 3D authoring ability
  • Modular or repeat-deployment work where the model drives a factory build and gets reused rather than redrawn
  • Dynamo or Revit API scripting to automate repetitive modeling and QA

Benefits

  • Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Equity (options) in a rapidly growing startup
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Parental leave
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Commuter benefits
  • Team on-sites where all offices come in–person to collaborate

How We Work

We value people who take ownership, raise risks early, communicate directly, and follow through. Incomplete information is part of the job. Make the best decision you can, document it, and adjust as the facts change. Move quickly on reversible decisions and take more care when security, safety, financial, employee, or customer risk is involved.
