ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly organized and knowledgeable HR Specialist with strong leave management experience to lead and manage absence-related programs for our company. This role is critical in ensuring compliance, consistency, and care in managing employee absences, leaves, accommodations, and return-to-work processes.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a strong understanding of California leave law, HR compliance, workers compensation, and leave administration, and exemplary customer service skills to assist associates, executives and HR colleagues.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Monitor and manage the Union Attendance and Tardiness Control Program
- Own all aspects of the leave process for our union/production and corporate workforce
- Maintain and distribute absence and leave related reports, monitor and analyze leave and absence data for trends, and recommend actions as appropriate
- Serve as project leader for establishing leave tracking within our HR system (current and future) to reduce the need for manual tracking and reporting
- Lead the interactive process for employees requesting accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Manage any requests for modified duty/work restrictions in collaboration with business leaders, the company doctor and the employee
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with California leave laws and ADA regulations
- Ensure time off work is being tracked correctly and reported to Payroll
- Assist in coordinating return-to-work plans and accommodation for injured employees, applying the ADA interactive approach with employees deemed permanent and stationary
- Work closely with the broader HR team on cross-functional initiatives, and support planning and execution of employee events and engagement activities
- Other duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5-7 years of progressive HR experience
- 3+ years specifically responsible for leave management and ADA; experience also supporting Workers Compensation a plus
- Strong knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and other relevant California employment laws
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
- Experience working with a union collective bargaining agreement a plus
- Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Proven history and ability to multi-task and work in fast paced environment
- Experience working with an HR Information System (SAP and UKG-Kronos a plus)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk and occasionally kneel or squat
- The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- No Travel Required
- Standard start time: 6:00AM (negotiable)
- Must be able to navigate manufacturing environment, comfortable around heavy machinery, tools, etc.
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $150,000/annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
