Scientist III, HTS
Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.
We are seeking a Scientist III to join our High Throughput Screening (HTS) wet-lab team at Ginkgo Datapoints. This is a wet-lab scientist role focused on assay design and biological experimentation, using automation as a tool to increase throughput. Ideal candidates are passionate about lab automation, assay development, high-throughput screening, process optimization, and are eager to onboard assays onto workcells and scale screening platforms. Candidates should be excited to work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, optimize, and execute assays for antibody developability and functional genomics products.
- Analyze, interpret, and document experimental data while maintaining accurate and detailed records.
- Lead the development and automation of biological assays in collaboration with assay subject matter experts.
- Contribute to the design, buildout, and application of automated workflows and workcell-based screening pipelines to support Datapoints products.
- Test, maintain, and troubleshoot robotic platforms and automation instruments used to execute complex biological workflows.
- Provide technical training and support to lab personnel on automation processes, equipment, and technologies.
- Work independently and in an agile, self-directed manner to complete tasks and projects on defined timelines.
Minimum Requirements
- BS or MS in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, pharmacology, or related fields.
- 4-8 years of experience in an industry laboratory setting, ideally in a high-throughput screening team with exposure to both screening and automation development.
Preferred Capabilities and Experience
- Strong background in mammalian cell culture, transfections, or cell-based assays.
- Familiarity with DOE-based assay development and statistical optimization techniques.
- Extensive experience with automation platforms (e.g., HRB workcells, Prime, Lynx, Hamilton).
- Proven troubleshooting skills across assay development and automation systems; comfortable adapting to new tech and changing workflows.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment with a sense of urgency, creativity, and focus on deliverables.
