Test Engineer 3, High Throughput & Automation
Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.
Testing and analysis of engineered strains, biologics and small molecules are central to both our engineering pipeline and that of our customers, and fully automated, high-throughput approaches - powered by the latest Omics technologies, are especially key to accelerating scientific discovery and innovation. We’re seeking highly skilled analytical chemists to join our Ginkgo Automation Business Unit, where you will help Ginkgo and its customers to improve and scale existing engineering pipelines, applying Ginkgo’s proprietary Reconfigurable Automation Cart (RAC) technology and state-of-the-art innovations in Omics-based testing and analytics.
The ideal candidate has led the development of various high-throughput assays, from development, validation, through to successful operation at scale, and practically understands how laboratory automation can be applied to increase assay throughput, walk-away time and output data quality. Experience working in a mixed team of automation and software engineers, and biologists is important, and excellent communication skills are considered essential for day-to-day interactions with Ginkgo’s customers, seeking to leverage Ginkgo’s RAC technology to improve their current laboratory work.
Responsibilites:
- Work hand-in-hand with biologists, automation and software engineers to develop internal Omics-based high-throughput (HT) assays
- Utilize in-house LIMS and data capture pipelines to efficiently deliver output data within the expected turnaround times and quality specs
- Utilize the in-house RAC system to execute Omics-based HT assays, and apply DOE approaches to refine and improve them further
- Work with external customers to understand their workflows and technically scope RAC systems that can fully automate them
- Work with internal biologists and engineers, and external customers and vendors on technically scoping new capabilities to be onboarded onto the RAC platform, to enable full automation of a larger variety of workflows
Minimum Requirements:
- BS or MS in chemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience
- Experience with analytical methods like LC-MS, HPLC or GC-MS
Preferred Capabilities & Experience:
- Experience developing Omics-based HT assays
- Experience working with external customers on technical development projects
- Familiarity with software and/or laboratory automation
- Familiarity with HT pharmacokinetic ADME-Tox assays
- Familiarity with uHT Omics platforms like the Echo MS platform
