About the role
As a Senior Product Designer on our Organizations team, you will design a foundational framework that enables centralized management of users, groups, and settings across the GitLab experience. This pivotal initiative aims to simplify administration, enhance scalability, and improve the experience for large-scale organizations and their end users.
In this role, you will develop a deep understanding of the GitLab product to address complex challenges related to user access, settings administration, and inheritance to uncover opportunities for improvement. You’ll play a key role in shaping a long-term vision for the Organizations experience, defining how it will evolve to meet the needs of users while aligning with GitLab’s strategic goals. Additionally, you’ll contribute to a migration strategy that ensures the transition is compelling and valuable as we iterate to reach the long-term vision.
This position provides an opportunity to work on a highly visible and impactful set of projects, collaborating closely with user researchers, engineers, and stakeholders across GitLab. You’ll navigate the diverse needs of administrators and daily users, ensuring that your solutions serve both effectively. Success in this role will require excellent product knowledge, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills as you work with teams adapting their features to align with the new framework.

What You’ll Do
- You’ll work alongside UX Researchers, Product Managers, and Engineers to develop a holistic design vision and strategy for the future Organizations experience.
- Communicate your vision and ideas through wireframes, prototypes, user flows, mockups, and high-fidelity visual designs.
- Guide feature teams impacted by the transition to the Organizations framework, helping them adapt their designs to align with the new model.
- Uncovering opportunities to improve the experience around user access, settings, and inheritance.
- You’ll undertake user research and usability testing to validate your thinking. (We’ve got an excellent team of UX Researchers who can offer guidance, as needed.)
- You’ll contribute to our Design System, alongside the rest of the UX team and the GitLab community as a whole.
What You’ll Bring
- Must have demonstrated experience designing enterprise grade software that suit large organizations well but are still easy to use and maintain.
- Familiarity with designing holistic, complete workflows, and larger design visions or North Star Vision Designs.
- Experience fostering collaboration across multiple product teams and stakeholders.
- Experience conducting your own research with a variety of methods, and strong decision making skills for when to do research.
- Strong visual design skills with the ability to balance leveraging the design system and recognising when a unique component is needed.
About the team
Product Design supports the teams at GitLab by becoming experts in our assigned Stage Group, educating ourselves about the entire product, and staying engaged with user and business goals. We partner closely with our stable counterparts in Product Management and Development. As Product Designers, we are the owners of design judgment. We start with understanding our user, their goals, and needs and extrapolating that into a problem to solve and then always consider what the best experience for the user would be.

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.

$114,200 - $200,000 USD
