An overview of this role
As an Associate Paralegal, Privacy at GitLab, you will play a crucial role in supporting our global data privacy program by managing complex data subject requests and responding to government and law enforcement inquiries. You will work closely with support engineers and legal teams to ensure compliance with privacy laws, review vendor processing agreements, and maintain adherence to GitLab’s privacy playbook. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to privacy compliance in a fast-evolving environment, where your attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures will directly impact GitLab’s commitment to protecting user data and maintaining trust. You will be part of the Legal team, collaborating across functions to uphold privacy standards and help GitLab navigate the challenges of global data protection.

- Managing responses to non-standard data subject requests and government production requests
- Reviewing and flagging vendor processing agreements to ensure compliance with GitLab’s privacy policies
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with support engineers to develop consistent responses to non-standard data subject requests under GDPR and other privacy regulations.
- Manage and coordinate responses to government and law enforcement data requests, ensuring timely and compliant production of required information.
- Review vendor data processing agreements to identify discrepancies and ensure alignment with GitLab’s privacy playbook and compliance standards.
- Support privacy compliance by following established playbooks and procedures, ensuring consistent application across tasks.
- Monitor changes in privacy laws and regulations to adapt processes and maintain compliance.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including Legal, Security, and Engineering to integrate privacy requirements into business operations.
- Maintain detailed records of privacy-related activities and support audits or assessments as needed.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience in privacy compliance, data protection, or legal operations, preferably within a technology or software environment
- Foundational knowledge of global data privacy regulations and principles, including GDPR and CCPA
- Familiarity with privacy management tools and platforms, with willingness to learn new systems such as OneTrust or similar
- Understanding of data security concepts and their relationship to privacy requirements
- Ability to follow detailed playbooks and procedures accurately and consistently
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple privacy-related tasks and requests
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain privacy concepts clearly
- Openness to diverse backgrounds and transferable skills, with a proactive and self-motivated approach to learning and development in privacy compliance

The Privacy team within Legal at GitLab is responsible for supporting and maintaining the company’s data privacy compliance and governance. This team manages responses to data subject requests, government and law enforcement inquiries, and vendor data processing agreements, ensuring alignment with global privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA. The team operates asynchronously across regions, collaborating closely with Legal, Security, Engineering, and Product teams to embed privacy practices throughout GitLab’s platform and operations. They focus on navigating complex regulatory requirements while maintaining clear, consistent processes and playbooks to support GitLab’s commitment to privacy and data protection.
