An overview of this role
The Agent Execution group is focused on running agents securely at scale on GitLab’s Duo Agent platform. Core parts of the development are the integration between agents and our runtime environment as well as how to observe and steer agents while they run.
In this role, you will lead a team of 7 experienced engineers to build innovative AI solutions tailored to our customers' needs. You give engineers clarity, remove friction, and coaching needed to build fast and build right. We expect you to be a strong engineer who never stopped caring about the craft. Technical depth isn't optional — it's what makes good engineering decisions possible. You lead because it's where you have the most impact, but you still love building.
What you’ll do
- Lead and inspire a team of experienced engineers across frontend, backend and AI engineering.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with UX and product counterparts to gather requirements and deliver customer-focused AI products
- Participate in technical designs and product development that enable running AI agents at scale while staying engaged in the day-to-day development.
- Monitor progress, unblock obstacles, and ensure on-time delivery for the team.
- Coach and mentor team members to support their professional growth.
- Promote a culture of innovation, curiosity, inclusion, and delivery.
What you’ll bring
- 3+ years managing high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong technical background in software development.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Hands-on experience with agentic AI in software development, and a genuine excitement for where AI is taking the craft.
- Experience with high paced environments, ambiguous requirements and shipping continuously.
- A passion for coaching and developing engineers, with a focus on a positive and inclusive team environment.
Nice to have:
- Experience with building and deploying AI products.
- Familiarity with observability systems and reliability engineering.
- Strong experience in Python, Ruby, Go and / or TypeScript.

The Agent Execution team is part of the Agent Foundations group. The team is distributed across three continents but unified by the desire to shape the future of software engineering. We’re hard at work creating a product and the infrastructure that changes development processes, building the software engineering tools of tomorrow. We’re partnering with teams both within the AI space as well as all over GitLab to ensure that the Duo Agent Platform can become the backbone of many AI features at GitLab. Examples of such initiatives are configurable network access and sandboxing for agents or allowing the creation of appropriate environments for coding agents.
