About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced, passionate and highly motivated Senior Engineering Manager with a strong understanding of backend systems to lead a team of talented backend engineers focused on our Community efforts. In this role, you will guide the development of scalable, high-performance backend services and infrastructure, while fostering a highly collaborative environment across the engineering organization. You will be responsible for overseeing the design and implementation of all Community related services and APIs, as well as mentoring and leading an experienced senior engineering team working with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes.
Interviewing will officially begin in January 2025 for this role.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead a team of backend engineers in building and scaling backend services, APIs, and integrations and foster a positive and growth-oriented environment, and you are committed to building and mentoring high-performing teams.
- Own the design, implementation, and operation of backend services using technologies such as NodeJS, Typescript, GraphQL, MongoDB, Redis, and AWS.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, front-end, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions.
- Design and implement RESTful APIs, ensuring they are efficient, secure, and maintainable.
- Oversee the creation of microservices architectures, leveraging cloud services such as AWS, S3, and SQS and be able to help ideate and guide architecture discussions.
- Mentor and guide backend engineers in adopting best practices in code design, testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
- Foster a strong engineering culture, promote growth and learning, and lead by example in delivering high-quality solutions
- Ensure effective project planning, resource allocation, and roadmap creation to meet team goals and deliverables and manage complex projects, balancing competing priorities, and delivering results.
- Engage with stakeholders to understand technical needs and align engineering efforts with business priorities.
- Advocate for and cultivate a "One Team" mindset to promote collaboration and cross-team cooperation.
What You’ll Bring:
Technical Experience-
- Strong expertise in NodeJS, Typescript, GraphQL, MongoDB, Redis, Restful API design, and AWS services (S3, SQS, etc.). Ability to guide and coach engineers in these technologies.
- Experience building microservices and migrating from monolithic applications to microservices.
- Proficiency in working with production systems, including experience with CI/CD tools.
- Experience with AngularJS and SQL databases/warehouse technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift) is a plus.
Management Experience-
- A commitment to add to our culture of DEI.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical leadership capacity with backend developers in an agile and flexible environment.
- Proven track record of mentoring and motivating a team, driving high performance, and fostering a collaborative culture.
- Experience in project planning, creating technical roadmaps, and managing resources to meet deadlines.
- Strong ability to work cross-functionally with product managers, designers, legal, security, and other engineering teams.
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders, aligning technical decisions with business goals.
- A strong growth mindset, leading by example, with an ability to continuously learn and improve.
- A highly collaborative approach with the ability to influence and guide teams across organizational boundaries.
Compensation and benefits
Base salary range*: $168,100 - $223,300
Glassdoor base salaries are targeted to the market 75th percentile for technical roles and the 65th percentile for non-technical roles. In other words, 65-75% of comparable organizations in our industry will pay less.
Annual bonus target**: 15%
**Bonuses are paid in 6-month intervals, aligning with bi-annual performance reviews
