Prospect Researcher/Writer
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) brings together philanthropy including the IKEA Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation and the Bezos Earth Fund, governments, technology, policy and development partners, and the private sector to tackle the twin challenges of energy access and transition in emerging and developing countries. By 2030, we aim to expand clean energy access to one billion people, enable 150 million new jobs and reduce 4 gigatons of future carbon emissions. The Proposal Researcher/Writer will support the effort to diversify the organization’s support base by elevating the funds received from institutional and corporate funders annually. Their focus will be on identifying prospects and designing a plan for approaching them. This is a unique opportunity to make an enduring impact within the international climate and energy field.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct ongoing prospect research to identify emerging funding opportunities and support the team in building a robust institutional funding pipeline for GEAPP.
- Support the development and implementation of tailored donor (research work includes engagement strategies) to establish new relationships with foundations and donor governments.
- Supporting grant proposal development/project management, including writing where required, and all aspects of bid and grant proposal management.
- Collaborate with internal leadership and staff, specifically the ExCo and programs teams, on creating key donor engagement strategies when needed, ensuring a cohesive approach by developing discovery and briefing meeting materials, crafting speaking points, and leading follow-up efforts.
- Update donor and prospect records, adding new donor data, linking records to appropriate constituents, scrubbing old/outdated data, and creating new/additional records, as needed (CRM).
- Regularly synthesize information into insightful and accurate research profiles
- Provide support to other functions of the development department, as needed.
- Support the management of GEAPP’s CRM (Salesforce) using collaborative best practices.
- Implement donor tracking and acknowledgment best practices for all government/agency donors.
- Work with GEAPP’s finance team to support development/finance reconciliation.
- Support reporting efforts (preparing slides, etc.)
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience in prospect research and proposal writing ideally in an energy and climate or international nonprofit setting.
- Business research skills
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts through grant writing and foundation engagement.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Proficiency in the use of online research tools such as Wealth Engine, DonorSearch, RelSci, Foundation Directory Online, etc.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to develop highly compelling and persuasive fundraising materials.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and experience working with CRM software (Salesforce).
Salary: 90,000-120,000 USD commensurate with experience
