About the Project:

Global Fishing watch is seeking proposals from qualified and experienced individuals or agencies to manage our digital assets in Canto. The digital assets management (DAM) administrator will be responsible for overseeing the organization, maintenance, and distribution of digital assets within the Canto platform. 

The ideal candidate should exhibit superb organizational skills, demonstrate a deep comprehension of digital asset management principles, showcase meticulous attention to detail, possess outstanding technical abilities, and excel in collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

The consultant/agency will oversee the organization, integrity, accessibility and permissions of our existing digital assets for a fully remote staff. The consultant/agency will collaborate with the communications team to understand the organization’s needs and develop user guides or training sessions to ensure efficient asset retrieval and usage.

About the Team

The consultant will support an internationally distributed communications team, and will report to the senior website manager located in the Eastern time zone of the United States. The team and organization primarily use Slack for communication.The consultant may be occasionally asked to attend communications team meetings. 

Detailed Responsibilities 

  • Manage and maintain the Canto digital asset management system, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of digital assets.
  • Organize digital assets according to taxonomy and metadata standards agreed upon with the communications team for efficient retrieval and usage.
  • Configure user permissions, access controls, and workflows within the DAM platform to align with organizational needs.
  • Develop training materials that can be distributed to staff so they can effectively search, retrieve, and utilize digital assets within the DAM system.
  • Monitor DAM system performance and troubleshoot any technical issues or errors that arise.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in digital asset management, recommending enhancements or new features to improve DAM system functionality.
  • Conduct regular audits of digital assets to ensure compliance with copyright, licensing, and usage rights.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to users encountering difficulties with the DAM system.

  • Training materials. Examples could include:
    • User guides
    • Video tutorials
    • Webinars
    • Customized training sessions

Scope and Timeline

  • Expected start date: October 21, 2024. 
  • The initial contract term will be six months. The contract is expected to be renewed upon mutual written agreement on an annual basis. 
  • Workload is expected to be 30 hours per month. 

Vendor Requirements/Qualifications

  • Ability to work across time zones.
  • Strong understanding of metadata standards, taxonomy, and digital asset workflows.
  • Proficiency with Canto, or similar digital asset management  systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage large volumes of digital assets effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Familiarity with copyright laws, licensing agreements, and digital rights management is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in digital asset management or related fields are a plus.
  • Familiarity with ocean fisheries is a plus but not required.
