The Sr. Manager, Software Development, is responsible for leading a team of talented engineers in delivering high-quality, scalable, modern software solutions. Reporting to the Director of Software Development, this role requires deep technical expertise, hands-on experience with modern development practices, and a proven track record of leading teams through complex technical transformations, such as transitioning from a monolithic architecture to microservices. The ideal candidate will drive technical excellence, mentor engineers, and champion efficient CI/CD pipelines to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality. This individual will be required to balance multiple responsibilities, but continue to be outcome focused and capable of completing and delivering the solutions that GHX needs to grow and meet our customer expectations around uptime and availability.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership:
    • Provide technical guidance to a team of software engineers, ensuring robust, scalable, and maintainable code bases.
    • Drive design and implementation of microservices-based architectures, leveraging best practices for distributed systems.
    • Lead initiatives to refactor and modernize legacy systems, including breaking down monolithic applications into modular, microservice-based solutions.
    • Stay hands-on with coding and architecture reviews to maintain high technical standards.
  • Team Management:
    • Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
    • Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to ensure team success.
    • Collaborate with the Development, Product, and Architecture teams
    • Employ Agile development methodologies for software development activities
    • Manage and coordinate technical dependencies with other teams
    • Coordinate incident response for the team, including coverage and technical response to issue
  • Strategic Contribution:
    • Partner with the Director of Software Development to define technical strategy, roadmaps, and architectural vision.
    • Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
    • Drive adoption of emerging technologies and practices to keep the team at the forefront of industry trends.
    • Assess risks and dependencies and identify mitigation strategies
    • Successfully identify core responsibilities for above areas, and prioritize those activities above other busywork or tasks that don’t align.
  • CI/CD and Process Optimization:
    • Champion the adoption and optimization of modern CI/CD pipelines to streamline development, testing, and deployment processes.
    • Implement and maintain tools and practices for automated testing, infrastructure as code, and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
    • Ensure robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to maintain system reliability and performance.
    • Plan and execute the timely release process for deliverables with all stakeholders including necessary communication

Qualifications:

  • Education: Computer Science or related degree, or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience:
  • Engineering background, including ability to understand technical architecture and implementation at code level
  • 8+ years of prior software development management experience.
  • Hands-on experience breaking down monolithic applications into microservices or modular systems
  • Deep understanding of modern CI/CD pipelines, including tools like Bamboo or GitHub Actions.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, etc) and container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Experience with Agile development processes (Scrum, Kanban) and leading teams in a fast-paced environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with modern frameworks )e.g. Sprint Boot, Node.js)
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, etc) and container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Knowledge of observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack) for monitoring and performance optimization.
  • Experience with Angular JS, Angular 12+, Java 11+

  • Ability to effectively communicate across organizational levels and with a variety of stakeholders, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences

Estimated Salary Range: $137,000 - $183,500 plus bonus

The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the GHX’s salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. The base salary is one component of GHX’s total compensation package for employees.
