Information Technology (IT) Manager

Organizational Overview:

Global Health Labs, Inc (GH Labs) innovates to reduce health disparities, especially in low-and middle-income countries. As a nonprofit corporation fully funded by Gates Ventures (the private office of Bill Gates), we partner with the Gates Foundation and other cross-sector leaders to develop technology solutions that address unmet needs in:

  • Diagnostics.
  • Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health.
  • Primary Healthcare Tools and Equipment.

Recent innovations from GH Labs resulted in several commercially available rapid COVID-19 antigen tests, an AI-enabled smartphone app to detect cervical cancer, and a portable cold chain device that enables vaccine delivery to remote communities, among many other tools and technologies advanced for the people who need them most.

About the Job: 

Global Health Labs is seeking a multifaceted Information Technology (IT) leader to head our IT team. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of managing and supporting a team, understand the needs of highly technical work and projects, maintain a generalized knowledge base of IT-related challenges, and have a passion for innovative technical solutions that have a global impact.

Role Summary:

The IT Manager will be responsible for the general oversight of all IT-related work as it pertains to supporting team members and projects, in service of GH Labs’ mission. In addition, they will manage and support a small team of staff, including full-time employees, contingent workers, and be responsible for standard business procedures as they relate to this role. They will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. This person will also define and implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices.

 

As a member of the Operations Group and IT Department, reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Operations, they will be responsible for IT infrastructure management, cybersecurity, technical support, network management, and data management. They will collaborate with colleagues across all roles and levels within the organization.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Manager, IT is an experienced people leader and knowledgeable of all aspects related to an organization’s IT health. They are a skilled collaborator who inspires teams to work effectively toward clear goals and objectives. In the high-functioning team environment, they will be responsible for providing feedback and assisting in re-prioritization as needed, as well as enabling team members to reach their fullest potential for the highest organizational impact possible. Their duties and responsibilities include:

 

Management Responsibilities:

  • Set clear expectations aligned with organization objectives, manage performance, support development, and create an environment for success.
  • Participate with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives.
  • Make final decisions on implementation plans and ensure financial and accounting operational effectiveness.
  • Effectively cascade functional strategy and help develop organizational policies.
  • Accountable for actions that impact function or multiple departments.
  • Reconcile multiple stakeholder views to drive business results.
  • Lead an agile team that has a deep partnership with the engineering and software team., provides generalized service desk and conference room support.
  • Mentor other team members in their technical specialty.
  • Understands individual team members' capabilities, strengths, and project load to ensure resources are allocated most effectively for both individual growth/challenge and mission impact.
  • Provides sound judgment to explore multiple pathways and areas of innovation.
  • Understands the organization’s holistic portfolio to best prioritize work and provides collaborative resources to support projects and outcomes across the organization.
  • Develops basic understanding of people management, particularly in professional development and delegation; assigns, prioritizes and checks work.
  • Responsible for team results; refines and/or implements methods and processes to improve impact; provides input to budgeting and hiring; meets cost objectives.
  • Anticipates problems; follows processes and operational policies to obtain solutions.
  • Understands relevant factors to challenges; within defined procedures, determines appropriate action.
  • Designs or leads solutions to roughly defined problems of diverse scope.
  • Implement, manage and prioritize infrastructure installs, upgrades and work assignments.

 

Information Technology Responsibilities:

  • IT Infrastructure Management: Overseeing the installation, maintenance, and upgrading of hardware and software systems.
  • Network Management: Ensuring the smooth operation of the company's networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and intranets.
  • Cybersecurity: Implementing and managing security measures to protect the organization’s data and IT assets from cyber threats.
  • Technical Support: Providing technical support to employees, troubleshooting, and resolving IT issues as they arise. Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Business Operations: to include vendor Management, coordinating with external vendors for hardware, software, and service purchases and ensuring they meet the company’s needs. Negotiate and administer vendor contracts and service agreements, through the procurement system.
  • Project Management: Leading IT projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Compliance: Ensuring that the company’s IT systems comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: Developing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity plans to minimize downtime in case of emergencies.
  • System Integration: Ensuring that different IT systems and applications within the company work together efficiently.
  • Data Management: Overseeing the storage, organization, and management of data, including backup and recovery procedures.
  • Innovation: Staying updated with the latest technology trends and finding ways to implement innovative solutions that benefit the organization.
  • User Training and Education: Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision. Providing training and resources to employees to help them effectively use the IT systems and tools.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or another related field.
  • 8 plus years of experience in an IT environment.
  • 3 plus years of experience in a managerial or team leadership role.
  • Experience managing a Service Desk.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO, NIST, ITAR).
  • Industry-recognized technical certifications are a plus. This includes Microsoft, Amazon, GCP, CISSP, Security+ and Cisco.
  • Working knowledge of Cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, and GCP).
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure (Cisco, Meraki, Palo Alto).
  • Knowledge of virtualization solutions, network monitoring, analysis, and cyber security.
  • Knowledge of network security best practices (segmentation, NALs, Policy Based Routing).
  • Knowledge of Azure Security solutions such as Azure Security Center, Conditional Access, and Azure Defender.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise directory management (Azure AD/Entra ID, SSO, SAML).
  • Strong technical knowledge of network, storage and PC operating systems, including Microsoft, Linux, SANs and NAS storage systems. Comfortable with UNIX/Linux and Windows administration.
  • Strong knowledge in supporting Docker, various AI tools and frameworks.
  • Experience with disaster recovery systems, RPO, and RTO terminology and philosophies.
  • Extensive application and cloud support experience with M365, Office, Azure, Amazon Web Services, and engineering specific applications. (Matlab, Solidworks, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Conferencing Rooms Systems (Logitech, Crestron, etc.)
  • Excellent documentation of issues, solutions, procedures and all customer incidents and requests.
  • Driven lifelong learner who enjoys problem-solving and empowering those around them through sharing knowledge and experiences.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Proficient in project management techniques.
  • Strong track record of managing performance, and developing individual team members through feedback, coaching, and other avenues.
  • Ability to effectively inspire and direct staff on professional development and manage diverse teams.
  • The ability to actively seek input, find commonalities, and align different priorities across different parts of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a complex and fast-paced environment, managing competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; strong team and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Works with efficiency and diplomacy.
  • Proven experience managing highly talented, diverse teams.

Pay & Benefits:

GH Labs is committed to paying employees equitably for substantially similar work. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $141,300 to $196,250. We aim to hire new employees between $141,300 to $157,000. allowing future compensation growth within the range based on aptitude in the role and context, and progress and performance against goals over time.
