Engineering Manager - Integrations & Ecosystems
Sounds great, what will I be doing? 🤔
As our Engineering Manager you’ll lead a highly capable group of engineers responsible for building and scaling GWI’s API platform. Your focus will be on reliability, performance, and security, while ensuring our APIs are developer-friendly and enable integration into customer ecosystems and AI/LLM platforms.
This means overseeing delivery against the roadmap, supporting your team’s effectiveness, and driving operational excellence. You’ll work closely with Product and cross-functional partners to bring initiatives to life, while creating the right environment for engineers to deliver at pace and with confidence.
Core responsibilities
- API delivery & operations: Oversee the design, development, and reliability of GWI’s APIs.
- API lifecycle practices: Ensure strong documentation, standards, versioning, error handling, authentication, and rate limiting.
- Ecosystem integrations: Deliver initiatives to integrate the API, and MCP into customer platforms and AI/LLM agents (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot).
- Security & compliance: Uphold strong data protection and authentication/authorization standards.
- Monitoring & performance: Drive observability, incident readiness, and continuous performance improvements.
- Monetization enablement: Partner with Product to implement rate limits, quotas, usage metering, and entitlement enforcement.
- Team effectiveness: Set priorities, remove blockers, and maintain healthy, sustainable ways of working.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work with Product, Security, Legal, GTM, and other Engineering teams to deliver roadmap items predictably and at high quality.
It’s also fun; shaking things up is what working for a growing company is all about. So you’ll need to be flexible, comfortable with continuous change, and working in a high-tempo environment as we grow.
What do I need to bring with me? 🧳
You’re an experienced engineering leader who combines technical credibility with delivery focus. You know how to get the best from senior engineers, keep teams aligned, and ensure APIs are built and operated to a high standard.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Experience managing backend or API-focused teams in SaaS or platform companies.
- Solid technical background in backend engineering (Go, Java, Node.js, or similar) and familiarity with scaling APIs.
- Strong grasp of the API lifecycle: OAuth2, JWT, SSO, versioning, quotas, rate limiting, monitoring, error handling.
- Comfort working in cloud-native environments (ideally Google Cloud) with microservices and CI/CD practices.
- Ability to balance delivery, quality, and sustainability while supporting team health.
- Track record of effective cross-functional collaboration with Product and other stakeholders.
Nice to have:
- Experience with API monetization and entitlements.
- Exposure to AI/LLM integrations or Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Familiarity with observability practices (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
- Experience integrating APIs with enterprise SaaS systems.
Equally important is attitude. We want people who think big (to make an impact), ask why (to find a better way), and show respect (to everyone, at every level, all the time). Those are our values, exemplified by our leadership team, and they’re a big part of what we’re looking for in you.
