Athens, GR

πŸ“ Location: Athens, GR
🏒 Weekly office requirement: Hybrid – 1–2 days per week
πŸ’Ό Employment type: Permanent, employee, full-time
πŸͺœ Seniority level: VP
🌐 Language: All stages of the recruitment process will be conducted in English

At GWI we're always looking for extraordinary people who thrive on making an extraordinary impact. Right now we're looking for a VP of Engineering to play a key role in our Technology team in Athens. If that's you, and making a difference gets you out of bed in the morning, keep reading. It could be the start of something, well, extraordinary.

Sounds great, what will I be doing? πŸ€”

As our VP of Engineering you'll define the technical strategy and lead the engineering teams behind two of GWI's core products: our SaaS platform and our Agentic Infrastructure (API/MCP). Reporting into the CTO and working closely with the VP Product, VP Data Engineering, Director of DevOps, and Director of InfoSec, you'll lead 6 agile engineering teams and partner with product management to keep everything aligned with our wider business and product strategy.

As part of our Senior Leadership Team, you'll bring strategic leadership and direction to the business. A few things you'll be responsible for:

πŸ‘‰ Own the engineering roadmap and budget across our SaaS platform and Agentic Infrastructure (API/MCP), and the 6 agile teams that build, operate, and evolve them.

πŸ‘‰ Lead and develop your directors and engineering managers, building a collaborative, high-performing culture across the function.

πŸ‘‰ Drive planning and execution across teams, keeping engineering aligned with our business and product strategy.

πŸ‘‰ Set technical direction, making the architecture and technology calls that improve scalability, reliability, and performance.

πŸ‘‰ Champion continuous improvement β€” especially in AI and agentic systems β€” to push what the platform can do.

πŸ‘‰ Own platform stability, anticipating technical risk and leading resolution during critical incidents.

πŸ‘‰ Partner with stakeholders, attract top engineering talent, and lead communities of interest in software engineering and AI-native development.

It's also fun; shaking things up is what working for GWI is all about. You'll need to be flexible, comfortable with continuous change, and working in a high-tempo environment.

What do I need to bring with me? 🧳

You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you're willing to learn. Here's what the team will be looking for in you:

πŸ‘‰ Extensive experience leading engineering teams behind SaaS products and/or infrastructure platforms, delivering complex products at scale on modern cloud-native architectures.

πŸ‘‰ Proven experience with AI-native development and AI engineering, and a genuine passion for building intelligent, agentic systems.

πŸ‘‰ Cloud architecture experience (GCP strongly advantageous); familiarity with Go and/or Python is a plus.

πŸ‘‰ Line management experience of teams of 25+ engineers across multiple disciplines β€” international experience ideal.

πŸ‘‰ Experience managing operational costs and budgets ($1m+).

πŸ‘‰ Excellent communication skills β€” you collaborate across functions, articulate technical concepts, and keep stakeholders updated.

πŸ‘‰ Inspiring, inclusive leadership across a team spread over three locations (UK, CZ & GR), bringing people on the journey.

πŸ‘‰ An agile approach and growth mindset β€” you fail fast, learn, and adapt.

πŸ‘‰ Strong business partnering and commercial acumen, conveying technical strategy to the wider Senior Leadership Team.

πŸ‘‰ A talent for telling stories through data, making complex information clear for any audience.

Equally important is attitude. We want people who think big (to make an impact), ask why (to find a better way), and show respect (to everyone, at every level, all the time). Those are our values, and they're a big part of what we're looking for in you.
