Manager, Packaging Development

We’re seeking a Manager, Packaging Development to lead the end-to-end development of innovative, high-quality packaging solutions across Glossier’s product portfolio. In this role, you’ll own packaging execution from concept to launch, ensuring our packaging reflects the brand’s creative vision while meeting technical, sustainability, and operational standards.
Reporting to the Director of Packaging Development, you will serve as a key liaison between Product Development, Creative, Marketing, Quality, Sourcing, and external manufacturing partners. You’ll drive solutions that balance form and function, bringing concepts to life that are both brand-forward and operationally viable.
Six Months Expectations
- Create and maintain component records and BOMs in Glossier’s PLM system (Specright).
- Partner with Creative and Marketing to supply packaging specs including dielines, component codes, and UPCs.
- Recommend technical solutions that meet design intent while optimizing for manufacturability, cost, and timelines.
- Define and manage component specs, 2D/3D technical drawings, tolerance evaluations, and assembly instructions.
- Coordinate artwork and proof approvals across internal teams and suppliers.
- Support technical documentation, including test plans, FMEAs, and packaging matrices.
- Maintain consistent communication with packaging vendors and contract manufacturers to track development progress.
- Curate a robust packaging library of existing and innovative components.
- Manage sample approvals and cross-functional alignment on packaging standards.
Twelve+ Months Expectations
- Independently lead packaging development for Tier A/B launches, reformulations, and seasonal programs.
- Deliver packaging solutions from early ideation to final execution, ensuring cross-functional approvals and technical alignment.
- Drive innovation by introducing new packaging technologies, formats, and delivery systems that reflect Glossier’s brand and sustainability goals.
- Oversee project timelines, budgets, tooling, and testing to ensure readiness for manufacturing scale-up.
- Provide technical risk assessments, cost models, development timelines, and manufacturability insights for new concepts.
- Serve as a cross-functional project lead, ensuring coordination and collaboration across Creative, Marketing, Ops, and vendor teams.
- Track trends in sustainable packaging, materials, and manufacturing processes to proactively evolve Glossier’s packaging strategy.
- Evaluate and improve packaging concepts with a strong emphasis on functionality, design intent, and environmental impact.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of hands-on packaging development experience
- Deep knowledge of prestige beauty categories (color, skincare, fragrance)
- Strong understanding of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging materials and manufacturing processes
- Experienced in packaging validation and testing protocols
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects with keen attention to detail and ownership mindset
- Proven cross-functional collaborator and independent problem solver
- CAD, SolidWorks, and 3D modeling proficiency preferred
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
In accordance with the applicable law, the following represents a good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum compensation range for this position:
- The estimated annual pay range for this role is $100K - $130K.
- There may be future opportunities for continued pay progression based on continued strong performance in the role.Full-time positions are also eligible for a competitive compensation and benefits package that include medical health insurance, 401K, equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units , Paid Time Off, Short Term and Long Term Disability leave, and a range of other benefits.
