Director, Creative Operations

New York, NY

Overview

We are a people-powered beauty ecosystem, leveraging unique and engaging online and offline experiences as well as consumer participation to fuel our growth. In 10 years, we have built an iconic brand that has revolutionized how consumers, and how the industry, think of beauty. The foundational DNA of our brand is resonant across generations, timeless, and ripe for building upon. Our next step is to bring Glossier to more people in more places.  We are inclusive, customer-devoted, curious, courageous, discerning, and results-driven.

Our Creative team is seeking a strategic, creative, collaborative and highly-organized Director to lead our Creative Operations capacity. Creative Operations is a workgroup within our in-house Global Creative team, responsible for intake, validation and prioritization of creative requests, development and maintenance of a unified job tracking system capable of real-time status and tailored team dashboards, development of both discrete project and high-level campaign schedules, creative resource management, trafficking, print and object specification, and release of final artwork. Creative Operations also serves as our primary bridge to cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership, principally Brand Marketing, Wholesale, ECOM and Product Development/Marketing.

Day to day, you’ll be leading, mentoring and orchestrating a team of Creative Project Managers at various levels of experience, to assure all creative requests, big and small, are executed in alignment with exacting brand standards, on time and under budget. To do so, you will partner intimately with each of our Creative team leads, and their respective disciplines (Creative Strategy, Copy, Brand Design, Packaging and Merch Design, Art Direction, Visual Merchandising and Experiential, and Asset Production) to continually evaluate and optimize existing workflows, and assure each workgroup is set up for success at the onset of, and throughout, any given project. Together, we will bring inspiring, resonant brand stories and product innovations to our growing community audience.

The ideal candidate is an experienced creative and team leader, has a systems-thinking approach to establishing creative workflow processes that dovetail with higher-level corporate processes (e.g. alignment to the greater company GTM calendar/process), is capable of jumping into tactical project management as needed, and ultimately assures the success of all projects and partners. To do so, they must be passionately organized, an excellent communicator and negotiator, and able to keep a cool head in a fast-paced environment with many simultaneous initiatives.

Six Month Expectations

  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships across the organization to enable honest, efficient collaboration between Creative and all partner teams, and to ensure that the Creative team is afforded access to the most current business information generated by partner teams.
  • Achieve and maintain complete awareness of all current activity within the Creative studio. Institute tools to make that awareness (always accurate in real-time) available to all Creative team members, increasing the team’s ability to self-manage.
  • Develop and foster a keen understanding of the Glossier world, our brand, our people and our values. Apply these learnings to all creative project planning and execution.
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of project and campaign schedules, inclusive of firm milestones. Clearly communicate those deadlines cross-functionally and escalate risk in a timely manner.
  • Join key leadership meetings to provide real-time project status and risk assessment for all active projects, as needed.

Twelve+ Month Expectations

  • Propose, champion, implement and document new workflow processes across the creative team.
  • Partner with Asset Production leadership to ensure the translation of briefs into shot lists guarantees both creative/brand integrity, and business efficacy.
  • Partner with Asset Production leadership to ensure that the production budget is accurately updated and tracked for reporting purposes.
  • Support Creative Director and each Creative team lead in regard to resourcing, to ensure business continuity during spikes in workload, planned PTO/OOO/sabbaticals, unplanned absences, and periods in which we are recruiting for an open role. Partner with HR and Fiance to manage contractor budget.

Qualifications

  • 8-10+ years of Creative Operations, Project Management and/or Production experience in full-service studio settings. Beauty, Retail/Fashion, or Prestige CPG industry experience preferred.
  • Brand side experience working with Wholesale partners (ie. Sephora, Space NK, Mecca)
  • Deep experience evaluating, implementing and optimizing creative workflow database platforms such as Wrike, Monday, Airtable, Asana, etc.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma are a plus.
  • Digital Asset Management (DAM) experience is a plus.
  • Full comprehension of standard creative processes across creative disciplines and communication channels.
  • Experience partnering with and aligning multiple senior stakeholders and contributors on large-scale product launch campaigns, seasonal campaigns and brand campaigns.
  • An ingrained ability to quickly assess project scope and estimate the required resources and time required to execute against any given scope.
  • Knowledge of shoot production and the ways by which it can be optimized to maximize the efficacy of the minimum number of assets required
  • Experience leading the translation/synthesization of discrete business needs and channel-specific asset requests into integrated, line-itemed deliverable lists and shot lists.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, both within creative teams and with Creative’s partners, internal and external.
  • Excellent oral and written corporate communication skills, with the proven ability to synthesize complex inputs into feasible, actionable project plans with clear roles/responsibilities and firm milestones.
