PROGRAM/GOAL OVERVIEW
Established in 1977, GOAL is an international humanitarian agency, with a team of 2,400 people, dedicated to alleviating the needs of the most vulnerable communities. Currently registered in 14 of the world's most vulnerable countries, GOAL offers a wide range of humanitarian and development programmes, ranging from humanitarian aid in disaster situations to focusing on nutrition, food security and building greater resilience and sustainable livelihoods.
The Programme Innovation Lab is a dynamic and collaborative unit established by GOAL to foster the innovation that emerges from its programmes and promote it within the organisation and the wider humanitarian and development community. The Lab is an open space that facilitates collaboration and partnership between innovation champions within GOAL and key external strategic partners in order to support innovations that can be scaled to overcome humanitarian crises. GOAL’s innovations include but are not limited to programmatic approaches, digital technologies, and various engineering solutions.
The "Programme Innovation Lab" (referred to as the Lab) is led by the Digital Technology Programmes Specialist, and is part of GOAL’s Programme Technical Team (PTT) with team members based in various countries around the world. This specific role is managed through the GOAL Honduras country office alongside key Lab staff also based in Honduras.
OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
The main objective of the Technology and Information Management Intern is to provide practical support to the Lab by helping build and organise a central management system in Monday.com. This includes supporting the set-up of boards/databases, dashboards, and simple workflow automations to help the Lab track tasks, projects, and agreed indicators, organise key information, and improve visibility of work across the portfolio, under the guidance of the supervisor.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS
- Support the set-up and organisation of the Lab’s Monday.com workspace, including creating boards/databases, fields, and simple templates as agreed with the supervisor.
- Support the development of dashboards and reporting views to help track basic progress across tasks and projects (for example status, timelines, owners, and key milestones).
- Support the configuration of simple workflow automations (for example reminders, notifications, and status updates) to reduce manual follow-up.
- Support the organisation of a structured events and external engagement calendar within Monday.com, including key dates and basic information.
- Support the creation and maintenance of searchable lists or repositories in Monday.com for Lab innovations and key Lab products (for example presentations, briefs, case studies, and communication assets), using consistent naming and tagging.
- Support documentation of the Monday.com system by preparing simple user guidance (quick notes, screenshots, and basic “how-to” instructions) for non-technical users.
- Support basic troubleshooting and improvements based on feedback from Lab colleagues, under supervision.
Other responsibilities:
- Be prepared to undertake a wide range of other activities related to innovation systems and information management, as required by the Lab.
MINIMUM PROFILE REQUIRED
Professional Studies:
- University student completing a professional internship placement in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering, or related studies.
Professional Experience:
- Coursework or academic projects demonstrating interest or skills in one or more of the following: database concepts, data organisation, dashboards, workflow automation, or low-code/no-code tools.
- Familiarity with Monday.com is an advantage, or experience using similar tools (for example Airtable, Asana, Trello, Power BI, or comparable systems).
Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of structured information (fields, categories, consistent naming, and clean data).
- Interest in monitoring, evaluation, and learning; project management and/or information
- Ability to use office software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Ability to explain technical steps clearly to non-technical colleagues.
Competencies:
- 100% professional fluency in written and spoken English (the role involves verbal and written communication entirely in English).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a structured approach to organising information.
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, accountability, integrity, and self-motivation.
- Ability to follow policies and procedures with an understanding of confidentiality and responsible handling of organisational information.
COORDINATION
The professional will report to the Digital Technology Programmes Specialist will collaborate with members of the Lab, and the PTT)
RESOURCES
For the development of the activities, the intern will use their own equipment, including a laptop/computer suitable for the role. As this is a remote position, the working tools and any access arrangements will be agreed with the supervisor.
