Facilities Maintenance Technician - Marine

Summary: 

The Facilities & Marine Shop Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of a marine research and development facility. This role performs routine facility maintenance, supports shop organization, assists with basic mechanical and marine-related repairs, and ensures equipment, safety gear, and company vehicles remain in safe working condition. The position works closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to support ongoing R&D testing activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and execute facilities work orders related to building systems, equipment, utilities, shop areas, and furniture
  • Perform preventive maintenance on facility infrastructure, operational equipment, and shop systems
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, lighting, doors/hardware, fixtures, and safety equipment
  • Complete monthly safety inspections of facility safety and boating safety equipment; coordinate replacements as necessary
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of shop and facility workspaces
  • Support construction, equipment installation, and maintenance projects within the R&D facility
  • Assist with basic mechanical repairs and maintenance tasks under the supervision of skilled mechanics or engineers
  • Perform basic maintenance, installation, or repair of boat trailers and marine-related systems
  • Manage and maintain company vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Order facility supplies, obtain repair proposals, and submit purchase requests as required
  • Coordinate activities with outside contractors, vendors, suppliers, and inspectors
  • Support shipping and receiving operations, including preparing outgoing shipments and tracking inbound deliveries
  • Facilitate space planning and equipment movement within the facility
  • Provide custodial or ancillary support as needed
  • Maintain accurate records and provide weekly updates on maintenance findings and facility concerns
  • Interact professionally with employees, customers, contractors, and cross-functional teams

Qualifications:

  • 3–5+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, or equipment repair
  • General mechanical aptitude with ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks
  • Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Working knowledge of building systems including electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work under supervision within technical environments
  • Experience working in office, shop, or industrial facility environments
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, operate ladders, and perform physical maintenance tasks
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office applications
