Summary: The Scholar Institute Instructional Supports position is a part-time, seasonal employee role that supports our Golden Apple Scholars at their Scholar Institutes (SI). Our Scholar Institutes will be from July 7-24 at Michigan State University and July 27-Aug 1 at Western Michigan University.
Reports to: Scholar Institute Lead Team
Responsibilities:
- Chaperoning Scholars to and from their Summer Teaching Experience when necessary,
- Reside in the dorms on campus.
- Assist instructors in classes. Ensure technology is working and they are set up before class begins.
- Meet with SI Leads to provide feedback on Scholar performance at SI.
- Provide accommodations and modifications for Scholars as needed.
- Facilitate debriefs of coursework with Scholars.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Education; specialization or experience with curriculum development
- Classroom teaching experience
- Professional verbal and written communications skills
- Strong organizational skills, ability to follow processes and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and multitask required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Pay Range: $20 per hour for work NOT to EXCEED 40 hours per week, plus a rate of $150 per week for two nights on-call.You may not work more than 40 hours during SI without prior written authorization from Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum, Neal Grimes. As a non-exempt employee, you are eligible for overtime pay in the event you work more than 40 hours in a workweek.
This is NOT a benefits’ eligible position at Golden Apple as your start date and end date in this role will be limited to a brief planning and preparation period followed by payment for work in your role as an Instructional Support at Scholar Institutes. However, you will earn paid time off as required by local or state law.
- You will be compensated for 2 hours of risk management training at a rate of $50 an hour. This two-hour training does not count toward the hours of work we expect to be required to complete the job.
- Compensation for work done prior to the execution of Scholar Institutions: The Foundation will pay you the sum of $50 an hour for up to 10 hours between your start date and the first day of Scholar Institute. These planning and preparation hours will be capped at a maximum of 10 hours unless previously approved, in writing, by the Senior Director of Scholar Institutes and Curriculum. Planning time is intended for services prior to the start of Scholar Institute.
