About the Golden State Valkyries

The Golden State Valkyries, the WNBA affiliate of the seven-time NBA Champion Golden State Warriors were announced as the 13th WNBA franchise on October 5, 2023. Originating from Norse mythology, Valkyries are a host of warrior women who are fearless and unwavering – flying through air and sea alike. This brand is Golden State’s modern interpretation of Valkyries: strong, bold, and fierce. Tipping off during the 2025 WNBA season, the team is headquartered in Oakland and will play home games at Chase Center in San Francisco.

About the Position

The Practice Player is integral in preparing Golden State Valkyries team for competition. In this role, you will participate in practices simulating opponents' strategies, and providing a competitive environment. 

Individuals currently or prospectively eligible for the WNBA are ineligible for this position.

This is a part-time position based onsite in Oakland and will require travel to San Francisco for games.

Key Responsibilities

• Actively participate in drills and scrimmages
• Partner with the coaching staff to study opponent offensive and defensive strategy
• Maintain a high level of physical fitness and conditioning
• Learn and understand the team's playbook, strategies, and systems
• Adhere to all team rules, regulations, and codes of conduct while maintaining confidentiality regarding the team's strategies and information

Required Skills and Experience

• Basketball experience at a competitive level (e.g., college, club); coaching experience preferred
• Knowledge of basketball fundamentals and excellent athletic ability, including speed, agility, strength, and endurance
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new plays, and strategies, and collaborate effectively with the team
• Maintain a positive level of integrity and be committed to the overall success of the team

Time Commitment

• Ability to attend required and scheduled practices, training, and home games which are typically held nights, weekends, and holidays throughout the season

Compensation

• $16.89 per hour
