
Director, Community & Public Relations (SCW)
About The Position
The Santa Cruz are looking for a passionate and proactive leader for our Community Relations Public Relations (CRPR) team. In this role, you will discover, develop, and deliver the Warriors’ vision of social responsibility and goodwill platforms in the community and lead the strategic plan of the external media and public relations sector. You will be responsible for leading and developing two full-time coordinators. This position reports to the Vice President, Marketing and Communications (SCW).

This is a full-time position based onsite in Santa Cruz, CA.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop cause-marketing strategies for activations within the Warriors community platforms
- Execute and assist with assigned programs and events within the social responsibility pillar
- Lead and manage the Warriors social responsibility platforms and programs (e.g., Season of Giving, Read to Achieve, Hoops for Troops, Black History Month, Women’s Empowerment Month, etc.)
- Develop and deliver the Helping Hands Employee Volunteer Program
- Create community messages to provide consistent and effective communications reflecting the Warriors values and strategic focus
- Partner with internal and external teams to promote the Warriors community commitment, programs, and partnerships
- Oversee Community Relations E-Newsletter & Community Impact Reports
- Develop and execute comprehensive public relations strategies to enhance the organization's reputation and build strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including media, community leaders, and influencers
- Oversee the organization's media relations strategy and execution, including managing media inquiries, guiding the development of press releases and statements by the Public Relations Coordinator
- Supervise SCW game-day statisticians (part-time)
- Lead, develop, and mentor two full-time Community and Public Relations Coordinators
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration/Communications, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 5 years of project or event management experience of community affairs, cause-marketing and/or corporate social responsibility experience preferred
- Minimum 3 years of community affairs, cause-marketing and/or corporate social responsibility experience preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication, service, resolution and presentation skills
- Ability to collaborate, influence and build partnerships both internally and across industries (e.g., sports and entertainment, non-profit, education, technology and government)
- Ability to balance multiple projects at once in a fast-paced work environment
- A passion for professional basketball, live entertainment, and social issues facing our community
- Valid driver’s license
Time Commitment
- Able to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends
Physical Demands
- Ability to push/pull/carry and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs and sit/stand for long periods of time
