As a Data Scientist on the AI Research & Reliability team, you'll help shape the future of Gong AI. You'll work with cutting-edge LLMs, NLP, and machine learning to solve real customer problems, turning research into intelligent product experiences used by thousands of customers. Working alongside the Product, Engineering, and Data Science team, you'll build, evaluate, and ship AI capabilities at scale.

You'll Own

  • The AI Product Lifecycle: Partner with Product and Engineering to translate customer and business needs into scalable AI solutions. Define the right AI approach, agent architecture, success metrics, and technical strategy before implementation.
  • Agentic Systems: Design, build, and evaluate the sub-agents, tools, retrieval, and memory systems that power the Gong AI Agents. Develop evaluation frameworks and benchmarks to measure workflow quality and continuously improve agent performance.
  • Conversational Intelligence: Analyze large-scale conversation data to uncover insights and develop NLP- and LLM-based approaches that capture the intent and nuance of human interactions.
  • Model & Pipeline Engineering: Build Python pipelines to create proprietary datasets, train and evaluate models, and integrate LLM-powered solutions into production systems serving millions of customer interactions.

You'll Solve

  • Understanding Complex Business Context: Developing AI systems that can reason over large-scale, unstructured customer interaction data, combining conversations, CRM signals, and other data sources to uncover meaningful insights and support better decision-making.
  • Building Intelligent Agent Experiences: Solving challenges around retrieval, memory, reasoning, and evaluation to enable Gong AI Agents to answer complex questions, perform multi-step research, and deliver accurate, context-aware assistance.
  • Extracting Insights from Conversations at Scale: Applying NLP and LLM techniques to understand customer interactions, identify intent and trends, and transform raw conversations into actionable intelligence across the customer lifecycle.
  • Advancing Applied AI Capabilities: Experimenting with and applying modern AI approaches, including RAG, fine-tuning, clustering, and agentic workflows, to solve real product challenges and improve AI quality, reliability, and user impact.

You'll Impact

  • Global Sales Transformation: The features you help build will directly empower thousands of companies and their sales teams, changing how they interact with customers and close deals.
  • From Innovation to Implementation: You will help bridge the gap between state-of-the-art NLP developments and real-world application, translating advanced concepts into high-quality, scalable code that drives Gong AI forward.
  • Experimental Frameworks: You will help design and execute experimental setups and POCs, providing data-backed evidence to guide product and architectural decisions.
  • The Future of Agentic AI: You will help shape how the Gong AI Assistant understands and navigates human dynamics, helping agents interpret intent, sentiment, and deal momentum across millions of interactions.

How You'll Succeed Here

  • M.Sc. in an exact science field. NLP or machine learning background is a plus.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in data science or machine learning, with hands-on experience building AI and NLP solutions.
  • Familiarity with modern AI approaches such as RAG, fine-tuning, agentic workflows, and LLM evaluation methods.
  • Strong Python skills and experience with ML/data libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, Transformers, LangChain, or similar.
  • Experience designing experiments, analyzing results, and translating findings into product improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with large-scale, unstructured data.
  • Product mindset with the ability to collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to solve real customer problems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
