As a Senior Backend Application Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll build and evolve the core libraries, frameworks, and services that power Gong’s Python platform at scale. You’ll work on backend systems, distributed architectures, data infrastructure, and event-driven systems, enabling engineering teams to build reliable and scalable products efficiently.

We’re looking for a strong Python engineer with deep systems understanding who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and building the foundations behind large-scale production environments.

You’ll Own:

  • Designing, building, and maintaining core Python infrastructure libraries and frameworks used across engineering teams.
  • Developing and supporting high-scale microservices and the shared foundations they run on.
  • Building reusable infrastructure capabilities for data access, messaging, observability, and service communication.
  • Driving engineering standards around performance, observability, security, maintainability, and production readiness.
  • Driving CI/CD processes, deployment automation, and cloud-native operational practices.

You’ll Solve:

  • Performance, concurrency, and scalability challenges across mission-critical Python services.
  • Data and infrastructure challenges across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Redis, Kafka, and SQS.
  • Production issues that require deep understanding of runtime behavior, such as memory, CPU, I/O, and process and thread behavior.
  • The growing complexity of modern software ecosystems by building infrastructure that guides developers toward best practices while preserving flexibility where needed.
  • Bridging architectural and operational gaps between Backend, DevOps, SRE, and Product Engineering teams.

You’ll Impact:

  • Faster product development through strong infrastructure libraries and foundations.
  • Stable, scalable, and efficient production systems across critical platform components.
  • Better developer experience through well-designed, reusable components and streamlined engineering workflows.
  • The long-term evolution of Gong’s Python infrastructure and engineering standards.

How You’ll Succeed Here:

  • You have 5+ years of experience building large-scale backend systems in production environments.
  • You have strong hands-on experience with Python and modern Python service frameworks.
  • You have experience building and maintaining shared libraries, including API design, versioning, backward compatibility, and packaging.
  • You have a deep understanding of Python’s concurrency models, including threading, multiprocessing, asyncio, and the GIL, and know when to use each.
  • You have a solid understanding of operating system fundamentals, such as processes, memory, networking, and I/O, and how they affect services in production.
  • You have hands-on experience with relational and non-relational data sources, including connection management and performance at scale.
  • You have proven experience designing and operating microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • You have strong experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • You understand how strong platform foundations balance flexibility with consistency in multi-technology environments.
  • You can independently drive technical solutions end-to-end in a fast-paced environment.
  • You collaborate effectively across teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
