About the team:
AI team in Goodnotes is on a mission to transform education and productivity by building the world’s best human-AI co-editing experience with cutting edge foundation models. Our existing AI products already help millions of students and teachers 10x their efficiency. These include the world’s best in-document conversational UI, AI Tutor, Classroom AI, and specialized handwriting recognition and synthesis models. Leveraging this technological foundation, we are now in the position to reimagine productivity and knowledge work with freeform AI for professionals at large.
You will join a distributed team across Europe and Asia focusing specifically on building AI capabilities within Goodnotes. You will manage a team of Machine Learning, Full-Stack and iOS engineers, and work alongside other Engineering Managers, as well as Backend Engineers, PMs, QAs and designers to build and improve our new suite of AI features. Type of AI technologies we are developing include multimodal LLM agents, retrieval-augmented generation systems, math solvers, Meeting Assistant, handwriting recognition, AI coediting on structured and freeform formats, etc.
About the role:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate AI Engineering Manager to lead the team in developing our AI capabilities. This person will be managing a team of ML, Full-Stack and iOS engineers. This person is expected to contribute solid technical leadership and vision while raising the bar in people and project management.
This is the role for you, if you’re excited to work on the things listed below:
- End-to-end ownership of an AI project leveraging state-of-the-art AI technologies including multi-modal LLM agents and document understanding
- Leading a highly driven, multi-disciplinary team, comprised mostly of ML and Frontend engineers
- Tackle some of the most challenging problems in multimodal LLM agents head-on, including spatial reasoning, agentic reasoning frameworks, and scalable tool calling
- Work closely with the with Head of AI Engineering to define and execute engineering strategies, aligned with the company's goals
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality work by the team, while maintaining a positive work culture
- Mentor and coach team members, encouraging their professional growth and supporting them in reaching their full potential
The skills you will need to be successful in the above:
- Proven track record of successfully leading the development of AI products from ideation to large-scale production
- Experience in leading and managing engineering teams, providing technical and career guidance to team members
- Big tech people management experience combined with startup mindset
- Solid mathematical foundation in deep learning techniques, LLM and NLP, with a strong preference for experience in document understanding technologies
- Strong background in general software development, beyond AI/ML
- Proficiency in Python; experience with Swift is preferred but not required
- Passion for AI technologies and a deep conviction in their potential to bring positive transformation to the way people work and live
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically
- Ability to thrive and create clarity in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Deep understanding of best practices in software development life cycles, project management, and engineering management

The interview process:

- Live system design & Technical interview: A live system design exercise with one of our engineers. This is where you get to see what it would be like working at Goodnotes as well as the chance to ask any engineering questions you may have
- Hiring Manager interview: A call with your hiring manager. This is the person who will be managing you day to day, working on your growth and development with you as well as support you throughout your career at Goodnotes.
- SVP of Engineering interview: A call with our SVP of Engineering who is overseeing and managing entire engineering function in Goodnotes
- Values interview – Meeting with members of the Goodnotes Team to answer questions relating to take ownership AND build great things
